It is believed to aid children in different significant aspects, such as thinking, emotions, skills on how to interact socially, and improvement of health in the physiological part. Holistic growth involves all aspects of one’s growth since they are interwoven together. For example, a child’s emotions might determine their behavior towards other people and could also affect their learning. When children understand how these parts are connected, they can become better-rounded and more successful people. In this article, we will discuss how important early childhood education is in holistic development. ## Understanding Holistic Development Understanding holistic development means looking at all parts of a child’s growth and recognizing how they are connected. It goes beyond just focusing on one area, such as learning or physical growth, and instead considers the whole child – how they think, feel, interact with others, and grow physically. This approach helps children develop in a balanced way, ensuring they are emotionally healthy, socially skilled, and mentally sharp. When all these areas of development are supported, children are better prepared for the challenges of life, becoming well-rounded individuals who can succeed academically and in their personal lives. ## Key Components of Holistic Development ### 1. Cognitive Development This area focuses on how children think, learn, and solve problems. It includes memory, attention, reasoning, and the ability to understand concepts and make decisions. ### 2. Physical Development Physical development involves the growth of the body, including size, strength, and motor skills. It includes both fine and gross motor skills, such as walking, running, and hand-eye coordination. ### 3. Emotional Development Emotional development refers to how children understand and express their feelings. It includes recognizing emotions, managing stress, and developing empathy for others. ### 4. Social Development Social development is about how children build relationships with others, learning to interact, cooperate, and communicate in social settings. ### 5. Language Development Language development is how children learn to communicate and understand language. This includes speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, which are essential for learning and social interaction. Each of these components is interconnected and plays a vital role in a child’s overall growth and well-being. ## Role of Early Childhood Education ### 1. Basic Training for Lifetime Learning The essence of ECE is to establish the base of education of a child for a further and advanced future. This makes their preparation for school academic competency successful and sound, on both academic and personal fronts. Early childhood life influences how these children are supposed to view learning and development across a lifetime. ### 2. Developing Friendly Contexts A safe and supportive environment would be very crucial for children when it comes to learning. When children feel comfortable and loved, they are more likely to explore, ask questions, and participate in learning activities. A positive environment helps curious, confident, and hungry children who benefit both their social and academic aspects. ## Benefits of Holistic Development in ECE Now that you have a better understanding of the background of holistic development and the role of early childhood education, let’s take a closer look at the benefits of holistic development in early childhood education. ### 1. Physical Development Physical activities are vital for the health and motor skills of a child. Running, jumping, and playing activities improve the strength, coordination, and fitness of children and help them grow and develop. ### 2. Cognitive Development Let the play and exploration guide your little one to learn critical thinking and problem-solving skills because these experiences set them up for strong cognitive skills, ready to help in school as well as further down in life. ### 3. Emotional Development Fostering emotional intelligence and resilience helps children understand and manage their feelings. This enables them to cope with challenges, build self-confidence, and develop strong emotional skills that will support them throughout their lives. ### 4. Social Development Building relationships, empathy, and cooperation among peers is crucial for the social development of children. The interaction will make them share, listen to, and work together with others. This enables the child to develop good social skills and a sense of community. ## How to Approach Holistic Education? ### 1. Curriculum Design A good curriculum must have activities that support all areas of development. Techniques used in experiential learning include hands-on activities, group projects, and real-life experiences, which will help children learn in a meaningful way. This method ensures that the cognitive, physical, emotional, social, and language development are addressed. ### 2. Teaching Strategies One of the most powerful approaches to involving a child with play-based learning is through experimentation, exploration, and the discovery of new ideas by which the child can become better versed in such skills as problem-solving and creativity. This will eventually help keep the child absorbed and enthusiastic throughout the learning process. ## Challenges in Implementing Holistic Education ### 1. Obstacles to Holistic Strategies Implementing holistic education comes with several challenges, primarily due to the time and financial investment required. Holistic methods demand flexibility and a comprehensive approach, which can be difficult to implement in a traditional, structured classroom or institution. Standardized testing and rigid curricula often restrict creativity and hinder the ability to focus on a child’s overall development. Teachers are often forced to prioritize academic performance, leaving little room for emotional, social, and physical growth. ### 2. Need for Training and Resources Additionally, there is a strong need for professional development and adequate resources to successfully apply holistic practices. Teachers need to be trained in holistic education techniques to fully understand and implement strategies that support every aspect of a child’s development. Proper training ensures that educators can create nurturing environments that cater to emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs. Without sufficient materials, time, and support, it becomes challenging to provide the well-rounded learning experiences necessary for holistic growth, making it harder for schools to achieve this goal consistently. ## Conclusion Holistic growth in early childhood education is pertinent to the entire development process of children. Focused on physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language growth, we thus ensure that children grow with essential skills to excel in everyday life. This approach not only provides support at the immediate learning level but also has a lifelong impact at the level of handling complexities, building relationships, and contributing to society. But studies and research show that we are also wiping away the good bacteria that naturally help to defend our kids from sickness and super bugs. In fact, in September the FDA gave manufactures 12 months to remove all antibacterial soap ingredients from the market. The Food and Drug Administration says they do little or nothing to make soap work any better and said the industry has failed to prove they’re safe. Included in the ingredient list to be removed from products are triclosan and triclocarban. ## Understanding Triclosan Triclosan is an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent commonly used in pesticides and antibacterial soaps. Triclosan is known to create antibiotic resistant bacteria. When Triclosan is absorbed into the skin it enters the blood stream. Triclosan is known to cause various side effects like cancer, allergies, hormonal and neurological ill effects, muscle weakness and infertility. ## Risks of Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer Using antibacterial hand sanitizer can have the side effect of increasing the body’s susceptibility to infection instead of protecting against infection. There is both a possible increase of antibiotic resistance and decreased ability to fight infection with continued use of hand sanitizers, according to Drug Watch. Using antibacterial hand sanitizers may actually be less effective than traditional soap and water according to Dr. Sarah Janssen of the Natural Resources Defense Council. ## The Superiority of Soap and Water It turns out the best thing we can do for ourselves and our kids is to use old fashioned soap and water. If you do use hand sanitizer for convenience, make sure to limit use to times when soap and water are not available. While we should wash hands regularly, a little dirt may help to keep the immune system healthy. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Health Tips --- ### [Creating a Healthy Routine for a Healthy Life Starts with Bedtime](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/creating-healthy-routine-healthy-life-starts-bedtime/) **Published:** June 23, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** One of the many struggles of parenthood includes being the enforcer of bedtime. It can be especially hard during the transition from summer break, back to school. The truth is, kids need sleep to be successful during the day. Below is the ammunition you need to reason your way through this battle to a peaceful resolution. ## Understanding Sleep’s Benefits One tactic that can be successful with children is taking time to explain the reasons why the body needs to sleep. Here are four important things that happen while children sleep. 1. Repair muscles and rejuvenate the body for the next day- if sleep is cut short the body will not feel rested and strong. 2. Memory consolidation- time to organize and process the information collected throughout the day. 3. Growth- the body releases hormones during sleep that regulate growth. 4. Digestion- the body burns off toxins and completes digestion from the day while it sleeps. If the body does not have time to do this toxins may start to build up and gastrointestinal problem may begin to surface. ## Setting Bedtime Guidelines Below is a chart developed by Wilson Elementary in Kenosha, Wisconsin to help determine if their students were getting the proper amount of rest. Age is listed on the column on the left, wake up time across the top and bed time beneath wake up time. You may be surprised to learn that a 5yr old still require 11.5hrs of sleep per night and a 12yr old is not yet an adult who can sneak by with 7hrs, they still need 9.45hrs. Keep in mind every child is different. If your child is showing signs of being tired (irritable, cranky, irrational) you may want to increase their sleep beyond the recommendation of the chart. ## Tips for Establishing Healthy Sleep Habits The bottom line is that kids need a night of uninterrupted sleep to leave their bodies and minds rejuvenated for the next day, and it is our responsibility as parents to make sure that it happens. If sleep is cut short, the body doesn’t have time to complete all of the phases needed for muscle repair, memory consolidation and release of hormones regulating growth and appetite. Then we wake up less prepared to concentrate, make decisions, or engage fully in school and social activities. If reasoning does not work with your child here are a few more tips: - Teach children about healthy sleep habits. - Create a regular and consistent sleep schedule and bedtime routine. - Make child’s bedroom conducive to sleep – dark, cool and quiet and stress free. - Keep TV and computers out of the bedroom, stop screen time 2 hours prior to sleep. - Avoid caffeine and other sugary drinks and snacks. Okay, maybe in won’t be that simple, but the benefit of putting them to bed on time out ways the initial fight or tantrum that may take place. Kids may be mad and mean in the evening when this routine is being established, but eventually they will wake up happy, rested and ready to succeed. His book began a national dialogue among educators, health professionals, parents, developers and conservationists. From this movement the Ohio Leave No Child Inside Collaborative was formed, and the Miami Valley Chapter is hard at work developing resources to have a positive impact on your child. ## Benefits of Outdoor Time for Children There are many benefits for children to spend time outside. Spending active time outdoors reduces the chance for childhood obesity, it helps children develop critical thinking and problem solving skills and also helps them understand risk management. Kids who spend time in nature are more likely to become adults who value nature and contribute to its protection, and will be part of the solution to the many challenges our earth is currently facing. ## Importance of Getting Dirty Getting dirty and connecting physically with nature is important to kids because the bacteria, viruses and microbes found in the dirt help them develop healthy and strong digestive and immune systems. **As a Creative World of Montessori parent** you can feel good knowing that your child connects in an intimate way with nature during weekly garden classes and scheduled field trips. In contrast to public schools, our upper elementary students and middle schoolers spend a minimum of 45 minutes outside daily. Lower elementary and primary students spend 1 hour a day outdoors. In many local public schools, middle school students do not have recess or time scheduled outdoors at all during the day, and elementary students are limited to one, 30 min recess. ## Disparities in Outdoor Time In 2010, Governor Ted Strickland signed the Ohio Children’s Bill of Rights. The Bill recognizes that every child in Ohio shall have the opportunity to: - Be physically active and play outside every day to grow up healthy - Have access to safe, natural green spaces in their community - Connect with nature, with free time to explore the outdoors - Discover the wonder of plants and animals, large and small, using all five senses - Explore the diversity of Ohio’s natural habitats - Understand the patterns and cycles in nature - Experience the joys of splashing, playing and swimming in safe, clean lakes and streams - Be fully immersed in nature by camping overnight - Learn how to give back to nature You can find a complete copy of the Ohio Children’s Bill of Rights here: ## Resources for Connecting with Nature There are many resources in the Miami Valley to help your family connect to nature, here are a few: Five Rivers MetroParks: [www.metroparks.org](http://www.metroparks.org)Miami County Park District: Dayton Conservation Kids: Centerville-Washington Park District: Darke County Parks: http://www.darkecountyparks.org/ Leave No Child Inside- Miami Valley Collaborative: ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [5 Simple Benefits of Eating Seasonally](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/5-simple-benefits-eating-seasonally/) **Published:** June 23, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** As night time temperatures begin to drop, with Labor Day behind us and children back in school, it becomes harder to deny summer is giving way to fall. With the transition of the season we will see the last of the locally grown sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and berries. Summer produce will be replaced with a fall harvest of squash, arugula, beets and carrots. Peach sundaes will be replaced with caramel apples and pumpkin pies. There are many reasons why our meals should reflect the season for which we are living. Here are 5 simple ones. 1. Nutrition: Freshly picked produce has higher levels of antioxidants. The farther away food is produced the earlier it is picked, often left to ripen in crates instead of on the vine. The more exposure to sun light our produce has, the more nutrients it will pass on to the consumer. Studies even show that milk has higher levels of iodine and beta-carotene in the summer when cows have more exposure to sunlight. 2. Flavor: If you have ever had the opportunity to pick a homegrown tomato or sugar snap pea off the vine no explanation is needed here. Locally grown and fully ripen produce have more flavor, fragrance, juice and are more colorful then their less fresh counterparts. 3. Economics: Prices are lower when supply is high. Watermelon and corn cost less in the summer when there is an abundance in local fields. There is more competition to sell goods when they are in season and when the cost does not have to reflect transport from Peru. 4. Environment: Seasonal foods are more likely to be grown close to home, which means less transportation cost and less carbon footprint on the environment. Eating seasonally also requires less pesticides to keep food looking fresh on its way to market. Using less pesticides helps to protect the earth and all its creatures for future generations to come. Eating organic is the safest way to keep potentially harmful chemicals out of your families digestive system. 5. Community: By eating with the seasons you are often supporting the local farmers in your community. Most large chain grocery stores sell locally grown produce when it is in season. You can also get to know your local farming community by purchasing your produce directly from the farm through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or at a local farmers market. The American Heart Association and World Health Organization recommend that children age 0-2yrs have no added sugar in their daily diet, children ages 3-18 yrs are recommended to have no more than 6tsps per day, women are also recommended to have 6 tsp or less per day and men are recommended no more than 9tsp per day. There is one teaspoon of sugar per 4g, children and women are therefore recommended 24g or less of added sugar per day. Sugar occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables as fructose and in dairy products as lactose. Foods with natural sugar provide essential nutrients that keep the body healthy and help prevents disease and certain types of cancers. It is recommended that children and adults have 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Fruits and unsweetened milk have vitamins and minerals, in addition milk has protein and fruit has fiber. The protein and fiber in foods with natural sugar make us feel full and keep us satisfied longer, cutting back on snacking throughout the day. Refined sugar has no nutritional value and is burned off quickly, leaving us hungry and craving more refined sugar. Eating refined sugar then becomes a cycle of eating, feeling hungry and craving more sugar. Most of us blow right past our daily maximum sugar allowance by lunch. Some of our added refined sugars are obvious, like when we add it to our coffee or bake with it in cookies and cakes. Sugar can be found in almost all processed foods, food manufacturers add chemically produced sugar, typically high –fructose corn syrup to many foods and beverages. You may be surprised if you start reading the labels of your favorite crackers, cereals, juices, yogurt, bread and salad dressings. Most processed foods add calories and sugar to our diet with little nutritional value. Eating whole foods is the best way to cut down on added refined sugars. There are many reasons to be careful when it comes to sugar, here are a few to talk about with your kids when trying to explain why they should not eat all their Halloween Candy in one sittingJ ## 1. Sugar is addictive Sugar stimulates the release of dopamine, a “feel-good” chemical in the brain. As we consume sugar, our bodies create more dopamine receptors that lead us to crave more sugar, resulting in a vicious cycle of sugar consumption. ## 2. Sugar damages your immune system By lowering the efficiency of white blood cells for hours at a time after consumption, sugar compromises the immune system and hinders our ability to fight disease and infection. ## 3. Sugar robs your body of essential minerals Sugar causes essential minerals like sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium to be leached from the body. This can weaken the teeth and bones, causing tooth decay and diseases like osteoporosis. ## 4. Sugar causes insulin resistance, diabetes, and weight gain Insulin drives glucose into cells from the bloodstream. Elevated blood glucose is toxic, so when excessive amounts of glucose cannot be used properly the pancreas begins to secrete insulin in order to remove it from the bloodstream, leading the body to become insulin resistant. When the body becomes resistant to insulin, the pancreas stops doing its job properly, which is a contributing factor of type II diabetes. Insulin also signals the body to store fat, which leads to obesity. ## 5. Here are a few tips to keep yourself and your family healthy during the school year and beyond. ## 1. Wash Hands- often Bacteria lives on fingertips, and research shows that adults touch their face, mouth, eyes and nose about 16 times and hour. Kids might touch their nose and eyes for the entire hour. Hands must be washed on a regular basis to keep germs off and out of the body. Hands should be washed with soap in warm water for a minimum of 20 seconds, about the time it takes to sing the Happy Birthday Song. ## 2. Exercise There are many reasons to exercise on a regular basis. It is recommended that children and adults need 1hour of physical exertion daily. Benefits of physical activity include increased heart health, increased capacity for learning, helps control weight and prevents chronic disease, builds and maintains healthy bones, muscles and joints, reduces stress and anxiety, and increases self-esteem. This means getting your heart rate up and your body moving; running, jumping rope, soccer, and freeze tag are all good examples. It is unknown exactly why exercise reduces ones risk of getting sick, but research suggests that consistent exercise gives the immune system a boost and may create more germ-fighting cells in the body. Another possibility is that exercise lowers stress hormones in the body that can weaken the body’s ability to fight off sickness. One thing that is known is that adults and children who exercise on a regular basis for 60min a day are less likely to get sick. ## 3. Eat the Rainbow Fruits and vegetables are full of nutrients called antioxidants that build up the immune system. Each color has a role that it plays in good health. Foods that are yellow, orange, purple or blue are especially helpful in keeping the immune system strong. For optimum health eat a diet complete with a wide variety of natural whole foods. ## 4. Sleep! Something we all love but few of us get enough of, sleep. Researchers found that adults who sleep less than 6 hours a night are about four times more likely to catch a cold when they get the virus compared to those who get 7 hours of sleep a night. Children require even more sleep, think 10 or more hours per night. Refer back to the sleeping chart posted under the Health Tips Category on the right side of the Blog home page to learn how much sleep your child requires to function fully and stay in optimal health. Though there are no guarantee that doing all of these things will keep you and your family free from the sniffles, it is a good start. These four steps along with staying well hydrated will help you and your family be your best all year. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [Feeding the Birds](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/feeding-the-birds/) **Published:** June 23, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** Benefits the birds and your family Winter is the season birds most heavily rely on feeders to supplement their natural diets. Over a hundred species of birds will visit feeders in winter when food is scarce. Some species will also use them to refuel during spring and fall migrations, and some will use them while nesting in the summer. Feeding the birds is a wonderful way to help connect your family to nature and create an awareness and understanding of your backyard habitat. Most children enjoy watching nature shows on television, they can be equally mesmerized watching a busy feeder outside the kitchen window. Watching the birds can become a fun and educational family activity. With a bird guide you can keep track of what species of birds are coming and going, how many are eating together and what birds share the feeder and which ones leave when others arrive. Children might discover who the backyard residence are, and which birds are just passing through. Families can begin to look at their backyard as a habitat, discovering what natural food sources exist and where animals and birds find shelter. You may discover your backyard is a wildlife oasis, or maybe you will find it needs improvement and your family can work together to make it a backyard habitat for birds and other small creatures. The National Audubon Society recommends starting with a Tube Feeder. Choose a model with metal ports around the seed dispensers to deter squirrels. Hang it at least 5 feet off the ground, and 3 feet (or 30-plus feet) from a window to avoid bird collisions. Seed types: black oil sunflower, mixed seed, safflower, peanuts Birds: Chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, goldfinches, siskins, purple and house finches Another great option for families are suet feeders. Hang suet in mesh onion bags or purchase a cage feeder. You can make your own suet “pudding” by grinding suet and adding seeds. Create homemade suet feeders by packing the mixture into the crevices of large pine cones. Seed types: suet and bird puddings Birds: woodpeckers, titmice, nuthatches, chickadees; occasionally wrens, creepers, warblers For step by step directions on making a pine cone suet feeder click here: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/discover/crafts/how-to-make-a-bird-feeder? Other parents may feel overwhelmed by the prospect of children being home. In either case it is important to plan ahead. Here are few tips to help your family make the most of the break. *\*Disclaimer: if you are headed out for a week of skiing or a warm beach, please disregard this adviceJ* ## 1. Make a “To Do” List. Make your list before the break begins so that you don’t waste the first few days getting organized. This list should include a combination of fun things your family would like to do that may be seasonal, or take more time to accomplish then you typically have in a school week. This may mean researching local holiday events, or gathering arts and craft supplies. The list should also include large and small tasks to help you feel more organized in the coming year. Putting these chores on the list helps to keep them a priority. Parents of younger kids may need to think about playdates or childcare to help them accomplish goals. Parents of older children should encourage them to also set some goals to check off the “To Do” list. ## 2. Set limits on screen time. Most kids want to spend time in front of screens, and as busy parents it is easy to let them. But research shows more than two hours a day of screen time can be detrimental to their overall health and well-being. Children 2 years and under should spend no time in front of screens. If you know you have to work, or are hoping to check a task off your to do list and can’t help entertain your child then play dates can be a great solution. For younger kids trade off with families, take someone’s child one day and in return have them take yours another. For older kids play dates allow you time to yourself while the kids are active and entertained. Be thoughtful and involved when they do watch or play on screens. Make a list of movies your think they might enjoy, pick shows that will help them learn and grow and games that you approve. Screen time can also be family time, why not pick a few movies to add to the “To Do” list for family fun. ## 3. Be active. Admittedly, there are some December and January days in Ohio when it is best to stay inside and play board games. However, there are plenty of days when we should bundle up and go for a hike, ice skating, family jog, build a fort with sticks…or if we are lucky build a snowman and go sledding, or have a backyard fire. Getting fresh air will help clear the mind for the coming year. ## 4. Get plenty of rest. Kids’ young and old want to stay up late because it is not a school night. School is just one of many reasons to get a good night’s rest. While we are sleeping the body repairs muscles and releases hormones during sleep that regulate growth. Memory consolidation, time to organize and process the information collected throughout the day happens while we sleep and the body burns off toxins and completes digestion from the day while it sleeps. If those are not enough reasons to get everyone in bed a descent hour, how about being over tired and cranky surrounded by overtired and cranky kids. We have all been there, but try not to make that your reality over winter break. Prioritize sleep. ## 5. Schedule time as a family. Without evening homework and hopefully with a break from extracurricular activities the evenings can be more relaxed. Schedule time for games, movies, reading and going out and into the community. Reading is something we do with our younger children daily and hopefully can do more often over break, but older kids may enjoy making reading a family activity as well. Pick a book or series to read together and have your own family book club. Be active as a family with exercise and outdoor play. Try to pick activities everyone can enjoy. The most important thing about winter break is don’t waist it. Don’t let it pass by with bored kids and stressed out parents. With a little planning we can make every day count. I hope you and your family have a great winter break. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [The Power of Storytelling: Enhancing Literacy Skills in Early Learners](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/the-power-of-storytelling-enhancing-literacy-skills-in-early-learners/) **Published:** June 23, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** Storytelling is not just an entertaining pastime; it is a powerful educational tool. It plays a vital role in enhancing literacy skills among young learners. In a world dominated by screens and fast-paced media, storytelling remains essential for engaging children. It also stimulates cognitive development. This blog will explore how storytelling fosters literacy, language development, and a lifelong love for reading. ## Language Development Through Storytelling Language acquisition is crucial in early childhood development. Storytelling provides a rich context for this learning. When children listen to stories, they are exposed to a variety of vocabulary, sentence structures, and linguistic patterns. These elements may not appear in everyday conversations. ### Benefits of Listening Listening to stories helps children understand the rhythm and flow of language. This enhances their phonemic awareness—the ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words. This skill is essential for reading proficiency. ### Practical Tip Parents can encourage language development by reading a diverse range of books. Select stories with repetitive phrases, rhymes, and rich descriptions to enhance vocabulary retention. ## Comprehension and Critical Thinking Comprehension is the ability to understand and interpret what one reads or hears. Through storytelling, children learn to follow narratives and identify main ideas. They also infer meanings, all of which are critical skills for academic success. ### Encouraging Engagement As children listen to stories, they are prompted to think critically about the plot, characters, and settings. This engagement fosters analytical thinking, as they learn to make predictions and connections. ### Practical Tip After reading a story, parents should ask open-ended questions, such as, “What do you think the character will do next?” or “How would you feel in this situation?” This approach promotes deeper thinking and encourages children to articulate their thoughts clearly. ## Fostering Imagination and Creativity Storytelling is a gateway to imagination. When children listen to stories, they visualize characters, settings, and events. This enhances their creative thinking abilities. Imaginative play is essential for cognitive development and problem-solving skills. ### Role of Imagination Engaging with stories allows children to explore different perspectives and emotions. This fosters empathy and understanding. Additionally, it helps them develop social skills and navigate complex emotional landscapes. ### Practical Tip Parents can enhance creativity by encouraging their children to create their own stories. Provide prompts, use story dice, or ask them to illustrate their tales. This allows them to express their creativity in various forms. ### Building a Love for Reading When children associate stories with enjoyment, they are more likely to develop a passion for reading. This intrinsic motivation is crucial for fostering lifelong literacy habits. ### Creating Positive Associations Reading together as a family creates lasting memories. It helps children view books as a source of joy and adventure rather than a chore. ### Practical Tip Establish a family reading time where each member chooses a book. Create a cozy reading environment with pillows, blankets, and good lighting. This makes reading an enjoyable ritual. ## Diverse Storytelling Methods Storytelling can take many forms—traditional books, oral storytelling, audiobooks, and interactive storytelling apps. Each method has unique benefits and caters to different learning styles. ### Exploring Formats While reading traditional books is essential, incorporating audiobooks can enhance listening skills. This allows children to enjoy stories while engaging in other activities. Explore various storytelling methods, such as puppet shows, animated storytelling apps, or community storytime events at local libraries. This keeps children engaged and excited about stories. ## Conclusion Storytelling is a multifaceted tool that enhances literacy skills and nurtures creativity, imagination, and critical thinking in early learners. By integrating storytelling into daily routines, parents can lay a strong foundation for their children’s literacy development. Moreover, it fosters a lifelong love for reading. Embracing the art of storytelling enriches children’s language skills and strengthens family bonds. In Ohio, there is no specific age after which a child can legally stay home specified by the state or our local counties. Children are individuals and this question must be answered on an individual bases. In my own household I have a very responsible 11yr old who follows rules, is trustworthy and has good risk management skills. This same 11yr old is terrified of being left home alone. That said, her younger sister who does not like to follow rules and laughs at risk, begs to be left home alone, or worse… in charge of her older sister☺ At some point as a parent we must make the decision to leave our kids alone either out of necessity, or desire. The following are methods of deciding if your child is ready to stay home alone from Montgomery County. - Judge the level of your child’s maturity. Logic, truthfulness, reason and dependability are signs that a child may be ready to stay home alone for a few hours. The honesty and trust your child has with you also can be a determining factor. - To prepare the child, leave him alone for a short time. Each time, leave for longer periods. This will help the child to trust in his own capabilities when he is by himself - Play act with your child any possible situations that could occur (such as a stranger at the door or a minor injury). Calm, clear discussions will allow the child to voice any fears he may have while allowing you to give the child important safety information. Remind your child that it’s okay to be cautious. - Leave several telephone numbers for the child in case of emergencies, such as where you can be reached, the number of the fire and police department and the number of a trusted neighbor or adult friend. Post these numbers by the phone and make sure your child is aware of them - Make sure the child knows how to handle these situations: how to answer the phone, what to do if he finds the door open or a window broke upon returning home and how to apply first aid for small cuts or burns. For most children by the time they age out of after school care programs they are ready to be left home alone, but as you can see some may still feel safer in an organized activity or with an adult. For me, I will continue to keep a watchful eye on my risk taker and rule flaunter, while encourage and helping my older daughter to work through her concerns, so that she feels more comfortable being home alone in the near future. Below is a chart with more guidelines and safety tips for leaving kids at home. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [The Importance of Play-Based Learning in Early Childhood Education](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/the-importance-of-play-based-learning-in-early-childhood-education/) **Published:** June 23, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** In the early stages of childhood, the most powerful tool for learning is play. Play-based learning is not just about fun and games; it’s a critical approach to early childhood education that supports the development of essential skills. Whether it’s building blocks, role-playing, or creative arts, play-based activities are the foundation for cognitive, social, and emotional growth. In this blog, we’ll explore why play-based learning is so vital in early childhood education and how it lays the groundwork for lifelong learning. ## **What is Play-Based Learning?** Play-based learning is an educational approach that uses play as the primary method of learning. It encourages children to explore, discover, and create in a way that is natural to them. Through play, children develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and emotional intelligence. The unstructured nature of play allows children to experiment and learn at their own pace, making it a highly effective way to nurture a child’s curiosity and love for learning. ## **The Benefits of Play-Based Learning** ![](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Gallery-1-1-1024x448.webp "Gallery 1 - Creative World of Learning")**Cognitive Development**Play stimulates brain development by encouraging children to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions. For example, when children engage in building activities, they learn about spatial relationships, geometry, and physics. These experiences are essential for developing critical thinking skills that will be used throughout their lives. **Social Skills**Through play, children learn to interact with others, share, negotiate, and resolve conflicts. These interactions help develop communication skills and empathy, which are essential for their social development. Group activities, such as team games or collaborative projects, teach children how to work together and understand different perspectives. **Emotional Growth**Play allows children to express their emotions and understand their feelings. Role-playing activities, for instance, enable children to explore different scenarios and learn to manage their emotions effectively. This emotional intelligence is crucial for building resilience and self-awareness as they grow. **Physical Development**Gross and fine motor skills are enhanced through activities such as running, jumping, or manipulating small objects. Physical play contributes to overall health and well-being, laying the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. Encouraging active play also helps children develop a love for physical activity, which can lead to lifelong healthy habits. ## **Implementing Play-Based Learning at Home** Parents can support play-based learning at home by providing a safe and stimulating environment. Here are some tips: - **Create a Dedicated Play Space:** Ensure that there is a designated area in your home where children can play freely and safely. This space should be equipped with age-appropriate toys and materials that encourage exploration and creativity. - **Encourage Outdoor Play:** Outdoor activities offer unique opportunities for exploration and physical development. Simple games like hide-and-seek or nature scavenger hunts can be highly educational and enjoyable for young children. - **Incorporate Educational Toys:** Choose toys that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and learning, such as building blocks, puzzles, or art supplies. These tools not only entertain but also enhance your child’s cognitive and motor skills. - **Join in the Play:** Participate in your child’s playtime. This not only strengthens your bond but also allows you to guide their learning experiences. Engaging with your child during play helps you better understand their interests and developmental needs. ## **The Role of Educators in Play-Based Learning** Educators play a crucial role in facilitating play-based learning. They create a supportive environment where children feel safe to explore and learn. By observing and assessing play, educators can understand each child’s development and tailor learning experiences accordingly. This personalized approach ensures that every child receives the support they need to thrive. Play-based learning is a powerful approach to early childhood education that nurtures every aspect of a child’s development. By embracing play, both at home and in educational settings, we can provide children with the tools they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Whether you are a parent or educator, incorporating play-based learning into your routine will help your child grow into a well-rounded individual. Through rhythm, melody, and movement, children engage in activities that stimulate their minds, bodies, and emotions. Whether it’s singing along to songs, playing instruments, or dancing to a beat, music helps children develop critical cognitive, emotional, and social skills. In this blog, we’ll explore how music education enhances early childhood development and why it’s a key part of a well-rounded preschool experience. ## 1. Cognitive Development: Boosting Memory and Problem-Solving Skills One of the most significant benefits of music education is its positive impact on cognitive development. Learning songs, rhythms, and melodies helps children improve their memory, concentration, and problem-solving abilities. Repeating lyrics and rhythms encourages young children to use their memory skills while also introducing them to basic patterns and sequences. How Music Supports Cognitive Growth: - Improved memory: Memorizing songs and musical patterns helps children strengthen their short-term and long-term memory. - Pattern recognition: Through music, children learn to recognize patterns in rhythm and melody, which is foundational for early math and language skills. - Focus and concentration: Learning to listen to different musical elements and follow along with songs encourages children to concentrate and stay focused for longer periods. ## 2. Language Development: Enhancing Communication and Vocabulary Music and language are closely connected, and exposing young children to music can significantly enhance their language development. Singing songs introduces new vocabulary, teaches children the structure of language, and helps them develop their pronunciation. Additionally, music often encourages participation, with children singing along and practicing verbal communication. Language Skills Music Helps Develop: - Vocabulary growth: Songs introduce new words and concepts, helping children expand their vocabulary. - Rhythm and speech patterns: The rhythmic patterns in music mirror the flow of natural speech, helping children understand the cadence and structure of language. - Pronunciation and articulation: Singing along to songs helps children practice pronunciation and articulation, improving their overall communication skills. ## 3. Emotional Development: Expressing and Understanding Feelings Music provides an outlet for emotional expression, allowing children to explore and communicate their feelings in a safe and creative way. Through music, children can express emotions they might not yet have the words to describe. Whether they’re singing a happy song or moving to a slow, calming tune, music helps children understand and regulate their emotions. How Music Encourages Emotional Growth: - Emotional expression: Music allows children to express a wide range of emotions, from joy to sadness, helping them become more in tune with their own feelings. - Emotional regulation: Engaging with different types of music can help children learn to regulate their emotions. For example, calming music can help soothe a frustrated child, while upbeat tunes can lift their spirits. - Building empathy: Listening to and performing music with others helps children develop empathy by connecting with the emotions conveyed in the music and understanding how it affects others. ## 4. Social Skills: Encouraging Teamwork and Cooperation Music education is often a group activity, whether through singing in a group, playing instruments together, or dancing in pairs. These experiences teach children important social skills, such as cooperation, turn-taking, and listening to others. Music encourages teamwork, as children learn to perform together, stay in rhythm, and create a harmonious sound. Social Skills Fostered by Music Education: - Collaboration: Group musical activities, such as singing in a choir or playing instruments in a band, teach children to work together and support each other to achieve a common goal. - Listening skills: In music, children learn the importance of listening to one another—whether to stay in rhythm or harmonize with others—which translates into better listening skills in non-musical situations. - Turn-taking: Playing instruments and singing in a group often requires children to wait their turn, fostering patience and understanding. ## 5. Physical Development: Improving Motor Skills and Coordination Music education often involves physical movement, whether through dancing, playing instruments, or using hand motions to go along with songs. These activities help children develop their gross and fine motor skills, coordination, and body awareness. From shaking tambourines to clapping along to the beat, music engages the entire body in rhythmic movement. Physical Benefits of Music: - Fine motor skills: Playing small instruments like maracas, tambourines, or xylophones helps children develop fine motor skills as they use their hands and fingers to create sound. - Gross motor skills: Dancing and moving to music promote the development of gross motor skills by encouraging children to coordinate their body movements. - Hand-eye coordination: Learning to play instruments requires children to focus on their hand movements and how they interact with the instrument, helping them improve hand-eye coordination. ## 6. Creativity and Imagination: Encouraging Self-Expression Music is a powerful tool for encouraging creativity and imagination in young children. By allowing them to create their own rhythms, melodies, and dances, music education fosters self-expression and imaginative play. Whether they’re making up a new song or interpreting the lyrics of an existing one, children use music as a means to explore their creative potential. How Music Sparks Creativity: - Imaginative play: Music often inspires children to engage in imaginative play, such as pretending to be musicians, dancers, or performers. - Creative expression: Children can express their unique personalities and ideas through music by composing their own songs, experimenting with sounds, or dancing freely. - Encouraging exploration: Music invites children to explore different instruments, sounds, and styles, fostering curiosity and an eagerness to learn. ## Conclusion Music education is an essential part of early childhood development, offering benefits that extend far beyond the classroom. From improving cognitive and language skills to enhancing emotional, social, and physical development, music helps children build a solid foundation for lifelong learning and growth. By incorporating music into their daily lives, children can enjoy a fun, engaging way to develop important skills while expressing themselves creatively. It stands for: 5- or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day 2-hours of screen time or less per day 1- hour of physical activity Almost None- Sugary Beverages Vegetables are full of phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Vegetables keep skin, hair and eyes glowing while helping us maintain a healthy weight by regulating digestion. A serving of fruit is the equivalent of a ½ cup chopped fruit, ¼ cup dry fruit, one medium fruit, or ½ cup real fruit juice. A serving of vegetables is one cup leafy greens, ½ cup chopped raw or cooked vegetables, or ½ cup vegetable juice. Make it fun and attempt to eat a rainbow for fruits and vegetables every day. 2 hours of screen time may seem like a lot, and it is. But for some kids it adds up quickly and they are spending up to 6 hours a day in front of a screen. Screen time includes television, video games, playing with a smart phone and computer time. (Homework on a computer is not included). Research shows that kids who watch more than10 hours of television per week are less likely to do well in school. Screen time is time kids could be being active, helping with chores, doing homework, reading, playing games and interacting with family and friends. 1 hour of physical activity does not sound like a lot, but if you don’t take time to plan it into your child’s day, it may not happen. Benefits of physical activity include increased heart health, increased capacity for learning, helps control weight and prevents chronic disease, builds and maintains healthy bones, muscles and joints, reduces stress and anxiety, and increases self-esteem. Physical activity can be unstructured time or structured, it requires elevating the heart rate and moving. Kids (adults too) should have almost no sugary beverages. Almost none is defined as 2 or less servings per week. Sugary beverages include regular soda (some have over 18 tsp of sugar per 20oz bottle), lemonade and other juice beverages that are not 100% juice, sweetened iced tea, sports drinks, and many coffee drinks. Healthy alternatives are milk, 100% juice and water. 5-2-1-Almost none can work as a great foundation for building a healthy and happy family. In a nurturing and structured environment, young children gain the social and emotional skills that form the foundation for future relationships and emotional well-being. In this blog, we’ll explore how preschool promotes emotional development and why these early years are crucial for building emotional intelligence. ## 1. Developing Emotional Awareness A key aspect of emotional development in preschool is helping children become aware of their own emotions and the emotions of others. Through guided interactions with teachers and peers, children learn to identify feelings like happiness, sadness, frustration, and excitement, and understand that emotions are a natural part of life. **How Preschool Helps:** - **Labeling emotions**: Teachers use storytelling, role-playing, and group discussions to help children recognize and label their emotions. For example, a teacher might ask, “How do you think this character feels?” or “What made you feel happy today?” - **Talking about feelings**: Encouraging children to talk about their emotions, whether they’re excited, angry, or scared, helps them become more comfortable expressing themselves and understanding others. Explore more on how early childhood education impacts emotional intelligence by visiting [Inspire Children](https://inspirechildren.com/). ## 2. Learning to Manage Emotions Managing emotions is a skill that develops over time, and preschool provides a supportive space for children to practice emotional regulation. Children experience a wide range of emotions throughout the day, from the joy of playing with friends to the frustration of sharing toys. Preschool helps them cope with these emotions in healthy ways. **Emotional Regulation Techniques in Preschool:** - **Calm-down areas**: Many preschools have designated spaces where children can go to relax and regain control of their emotions when they’re feeling overwhelmed. - **Breathing exercises**: Teachers may introduce simple breathing techniques to help children calm down during stressful or emotional moments. - **Modeling**: Preschool teachers model emotional regulation by staying calm when conflicts arise, demonstrating how to manage emotions in difficult situations. Discover more ways to encourage emotional regulation in young children through our blog at [Creative World of Montessori](https://creativeworldofmontessori.com/). ## 3. Building Empathy and Social Skills Empathy—the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person—is crucial for emotional development. In preschool, children have daily opportunities to interact with peers, helping them develop empathy and navigate social relationships. **How Preschool Encourages Empathy:** - **Group activities**: Working on group projects or playing together teaches children the importance of cooperation, sharing, and taking turns. Through these interactions, they begin to recognize the feelings of others and develop empathy. - **Conflict resolution**: Disagreements are natural in social development. Preschool teachers guide children through problem-solving strategies and encourage them to consider how their actions affect others. - **Learning through play**: During imaginative play, children often take on different roles and perspectives, helping them develop a deeper understanding of others’ feelings and viewpoints. For more insights on teaching empathy in preschool, check out this article from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). ## 4. Encouraging Independence and Confidence As children begin to navigate their emotions in preschool, they also develop a sense of independence and self-confidence. Preschool provides an environment where children can explore new activities, make decisions, and learn from their experiences, all while feeling supported by their teachers. **How Preschool Builds Confidence:** - **Decision-making**: From choosing which activity to participate in to solving problems, preschool encourages children to make choices and feel proud of their decisions. - **Positive reinforcement**: Teachers use praise and encouragement to boost confidence and motivate children to keep trying, even when tasks are challenging. - **Celebrating small successes**: Whether completing a puzzle or learning to tie their shoes, teachers celebrate small accomplishments, helping children build self-esteem and pride in their abilities. Learn how fostering independence early can lead to lifelong success in our Creative Curriculum Activities to Try at Home blog. ## 5. Creating a Safe Environment for Emotional Growth A preschool environment is designed to foster emotional safety and security, which is essential for healthy emotional development. In a safe and supportive setting, children feel more comfortable exploring their emotions and expressing themselves without fear of judgment or rejection. **How Preschool Provides Emotional Safety:** - **Consistent routines**: Regular daily routines help children feel secure, knowing what to expect. This sense of predictability reduces anxiety and allows children to focus on emotional growth. - **Supportive relationships**: Teachers build strong, nurturing relationships with each child, creating trust and security. Children know their teachers are there to listen and help them navigate their emotions. - **Inclusive environment**: Preschools encourage an inclusive atmosphere where all children feel valued and respected, regardless of their background, abilities, or emotional needs. --- ## **Conclusion** Preschool is a critical stepping stone for emotional development. By providing a structured, supportive environment, preschools help young children learn to recognize and manage their emotions, build empathy, and develop social skills. With the guidance of caring teachers and opportunities to interact with peers, children gain the emotional tools they need to navigate the complexities of growing up. It helps all children feel welcome and valued. It eventually creates a place where they can grow and learn. This place also helps to promote learning in harmony with each other. In this blog, we will share simple ways to promote diversity and inclusion in early education. These tips will help every child to grow and learn together. ## How to Provide Inclusive Education? Some children may have difficulty understanding complex instructions. So, you need to use clear and simple language when giving directions. Repeat instructions if needed. Make sure all children understand what is expected of them. Additionally, ensure that every child feels that they belong in the classroom. To do this, use activities that include everyone. Celebrate each child’s individuality. This will help to create a strong sense of community. Encourage all children to participate in class activities. Some children in the beginning can be shy or hesitant. Create a supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable in sharing their thoughts and feelings. Praise their efforts and participation. You can try out reading and including books and stories in the curriculum that focus on concepts like inclusive education and diversity. Moreover, you can try celebrating festivals of different cultures. All this can help you create a more can be a place where children can grow in harmony with each other. ### \#1 Provide The Necessary Support Some children may need some extra support sometimes. This support can be in the form of providing them with some extra attention, teaching them with special tools, or giving them extra lessons after usual classes. It is generally the responsibility of teachers to identify what type of support the child needs and provide it in an efficient manner to promote inclusive learning. ### \#2 Create a Safe Space Children need to feel safe in the classroom so that they can express themselves in a free manner. So, amongst other inclusive teaching methods, you can try to create a comfortable place where students don’t hesitate to share their thoughts and feelings. This means that you should try to encourage open communication in the classroom setting. ### \#3 Promote Collaborative Activities Group activities can really help children learn teamwork and other social skills. Hence, let children work in pairs or small groups. This can further help them learn how to respect and appreciate the ideas and abilities of other children. ### \#4 Celebrate Achievements You need to celebrate the achievements of all children. This should be done no matter how big or small those achievements are. This will show that every effort is appreciated. Thus, children will feel more confident in exploring and learning new concepts without worrying about anything. ### \#5 Promote Flexible Seating Not all children are comfortable sitting at a desk every day. Therefore, you should provide a little bit more flexibility when it comes to seating options. This can include bean bags, cushions, or standing desks. Thus, allow children to choose a seating arrangement that works best for them. ### \#6 Open Discussions Teachers should also try holding open discussions about diversity and inclusion. Let children share their thoughts and experiences. Use these discussions to teach them how to respect and accept the opinions of other people. Such discussions will help children understand the concept of classroom diversity. And this will help you create a more inclusive setting. ### \#7 Make Sure There Are No Bullying Instances Bullying can seriously harm the classroom environment. So, if you see that there are instances of any type of bullying then try to solve them as soon as possible. Moreover, you need to remember that if you want to create an inclusive classroom then it will take time. This is due to the fact that change won’t happen overnight. So, you need to be patient with your children. ### \#8 Display Student Work Display the work of all students in the classroom. This will show them that you value their efforts and contributions. It also gives them a sense of pride and ownership. This will also help them explore more. Moreover, this will help to enhance their creative skills. These creative skills are an essential part of growing. So, if you will display their work then they will engage more in such kinds of activities. ## Conclusion Creating an inclusive classroom environment is important for the overall development of all children. Curriculum includes lessons in pouring liquids, washing dishes, folding laundry, and peeling oranges. These life skills help students feel important by teaching them how to contribute at home with family chores and also build a sense of independence. In the garden students learn how to prepare growing beds, plant seeds, water, weed and harvest. Many weeks the harvest is available for families to take home from the front desk, but other weeks it is held back so the students have an opportunity to help prepare recipes from the garden. ## Building Confidence and Connection Helping in the garden and the kitchen helps kids build confidence and feel accomplished. They must learn how to properly handle and safely use tools, follow directions and work together to be successful. Spending time in the kitchen as a family helps kids bond and build relationships. It is also an opportunity to teach them about nutrition and eating a balanced diet for good health. The more a child is connected to a meal, the more invested they are in trying it and liking new and healthy foods. ## Nutrition Education Through Hands-On Experience Most parents would be amazed to see their children asking for second servings of fresh pesto sauce or kale from the garden, but they do. The few students who are hesitant to try fresh foods from the garden are often encouraged by their classmates to eat, and when they do it is rare that a child does not enjoy. Fresh tomatoes, green beans and sugar snap peas rarely make it to our harvest basket as they are eaten up by the students picking them. Here are a few simple recipes your children may have experienced in the garden. 1. Fresh kale: Gently massage olive oil onto individual kale leaves, cut the thick stem out of the middle and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Some students like a little fresh lemon juice squeezed on top. 2. Kale chips. Same recipe as above but spread on a baking sheet with parchment paper and 25-30min at 300 degrees. 3. Garden Pesto: In class we add a few handfuls of fresh basil, a garlic clove, olive oil and water with a little salt and pepper and pulse it in the blender until smooth. We dip into it with fresh tomatoes from the garden, but pesto can be eaten with pasta, on pizza or used as a dipping sauce. At home, if there are no allergies you might also add pine nuts and parmesan cheese. 4. Carrot beet juice: Seriously, your kids like this☺ While I use a juice machine at school, here is a recipe that does not require one. 5. Raw zucchini noodles: Wash and spiral fresh zucchini, add a little olive oil and salt and pepper. These noodles can also be enjoyed with fresh pesto ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [Establish a Daily Routine for a Healthy Family](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/establish-daily-routine-healthy-family/) **Published:** June 22, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** Fall is the time to set a daily routine for a year (lifetime) of success. There are many benefits to creating a routine for your child. Here are a few: - Routine can teach and enforce healthy habits like good hygiene, exercise and quiet time. - Having a predictable routine helps young people feel safe and secure. - Routines that include fun and spending time together as a family can strengthen relationships between children and parents. - Daily routines help set the body’s clock, a bedtime routine will help children anticipate when it is time to sleep. An efficient morning routine will help eliminate stress. - Routines that involve daily chores will help children develop a sense of responsibility. - Routines help develop basic work skills and time management. - As children change over the years having a predictable family routine will keep them feeling safe and give them a sense of belonging. What should be included in a child’s daily routine? ## Morning routine An established routine will allow children some independence without you having to stress out over what still needs to be done. Before leaving their room children should get dressed and make their bed, then use the bathroom, wash hands and brush teeth. Come to the kitchen to eat breakfast, get shoes on and pack their backpacks. Is there time for outside play, quite reading or TV? Below is a printable chart for younger children to stay on track. Or have some fun and create a morning routine that works for your family, and print out your own cards or chart. ## After School The afternoon is a great time to connect with your kids. Having a routine will make sure this time is not lost to bad habits. Kids just like grown-ups need a little time to relax after school. A few simple tricks can help make this easy. Kids should put their things away. Having a place for them to put their coats and backpacks will make life much easier. Once this is done they should use the bathroom and wash their hands. During an afternoon snack children can share papers and work they’ve brought home as they talk about their day. Next is a little more individualized. Some children will be okay to start in on their homework, where others may need to work off some energy and play. Children need a minimum of 60 minutes of exercise per day. It is not safe to assume that they meet this requirement at school. Before dinner, children should have time to play and complete their homework. They should also be helping with simple chores like setting the table. If you are a working parent and your child is in an aftercare program, great. They can still do many of these things in aftercare. There is time to complete homework, read, play and exercise. Discuss your routine and goals with your child as well as their aftercare teacher. Involving the teacher in your expectations of your child will help to ensure success. When you get home, put away your things from the day and take a moment to connect over papers they’ve brought home and check their homework. As dinner is prepared, have them help set the table and take care of any additional chores. ## Dinner Routine Research has shown numerous benefits to eating dinner together as a family at least 4 times during the week. Family dinners have been linked to a lower risk of obesity, substance abuse, eating disorders, and an increased chance of graduating from high school. This is an opportunity for parents to teach healthy communication skills to children by asking questions and listening to answers. Parents can share family values while discussing age appropriate current events and telling stories that teach relevant lessons. Everyone can play a role in a successful family dinner routine. From menu planning to grocery shopping there is a lot that goes into making this work during the week. In addition to setting the table and helping prepare food, children should also be helping to clear the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher. ## Bedtime Routine The bedtime routine will include hygiene. Using the bathroom, brushing hands and teeth, possibly a bath or shower. Bedtime should also include quiet reading time either with a parent or independently. A routine will help to alleviate some of the stress around lights out. ## Make a School Year’s Resolution To empower parents with practical advice to support their child’s overall development, NBC News Education Nation is sharing a free Parent Toolkit so you can support the students in your life who are preparing to go back to school. As kids get older it is easier to let them plop down in front a screen and zone out so that we can have some piece and quite. However, when given the opportunity for alone time in a constructive environment it can empower kids to enjoy being creative in the moment, as well as encourage self-study and independence. Here are 7 tips taken from a 2017 Redbook online article by [Hagar Scher](https://www.redbookmag.com/author/3573/hagar-scher/) and [Tehrene Firman](https://www.redbookmag.com/author/10223/tehrene-firman/) . ## 1. Show Them How It’s Done The first step in teaching your child to be okay with being alone is showing him how fun it can be. This process begins even before he can crawl. “To a certain extent, being alone is a learned behavior, and if you never leave your baby, he won’t learn to settle himself,” says Cynthia Chandler, PhD, assistant professor of early childhood education at Black Hill State University in Spearfish, SD. “Putting your child in a playpen or crib with a few toys while you hang out nearby — or even leave the room — will plant the seeds of self-soothing and focus.” Rattles, stacking rings, and other easy-to-grasp objects can keep a six-month-old busy for up to 20 minutes — enough time for *you* to grab a cup of coffee. Once your little one can scoot around, your alone time needs to happen in viewing (and pouncing) distance of him. Happily, toddlers find the world so fascinating that they’ll play enthusiastically for 15 minutes or more with colorful scarves or wooden spoons. As they discover their joys and passions, share yours: Sometime around your kid’s second birthday, start talking out loud about the things you love to do alone and why. “Our children gain so much from their parents’ being people with interests,” Hirsh-Pasek says. “When they see you dancing, they’ll twirl and leap. When there are readers in the house, they’ll appreciate books.” Some children take naturally to solo play; others require more guidance to get their imaginations rolling. “One of my twins gets lost in her dolls while her sister needs me to set her up with an art project or a book,” says Victoria Loveland-Coen, 47, of Chapel Hill, NC. Gradually increase the amount of time that you leave your child alone. Try setting a timer and explain that she has to stay in her room until it dings. “Offer positive reinforcement, like, ‘You did such a great job building towers on your own.’ You want her to internalize your confidence that she can be self-sufficient,” says Michele Borba, author of *The Big Book of Parenting Solutions*. ## 2. Create a Kid-Proof Space “The best way to encourage your child to lose herself in independent activities is to create secure, baby-proofed play areas in your home and yard that encourage experimentation,” says psychologist Margaret Paul, PhD, coauthor of [*Do I Have to Give Up Me to Be Loved by My Kids?*](http://www.amazon.com/Do-Have-Give-Loved-Kids/dp/0425150593?tag=redbook_auto-append-20&ascsubtag=%5bartid|10063.a.5191%5bsrc|%5bch|%5blt|) Michelle Workman, 39, a Los Angeles interior designer, created a wondrous [playroom](https://www.redbookmag.com/home/decor/advice/g973/vintage-decor-ideas/?) for her two sons, complete with oversize stuffed animals, a fake tree, and a built-in desk and toy boxes. “I covered the space in a thick, dark green shag rug with a pad underneath so heads and elbows are cushioned against falls,” she says. “Saturday mornings, we put snacks in the room for them and buy ourselves some extra lounging time.” You don’t have to dedicate a whole room to your tots — even a low kitchen drawer full of Tupperware can be a treasure trove. “I keep a basket of toys and books in each room,” says Evanston, IL, mom of four Liz Hletko, 39. “When I go into another room for mommy time, the kids have basket time.” Rotating out the toys, books, and supplies in your bins about once a month will keep your child from getting overwhelmed and make the train set or dinosaurs you stashed away for four weeks exciting again. According to experts — and moms — kid-space essentials include building blocks, Duplos and Legos, costumes, and crayons, paper plates, and other art supplies. “Open-ended toys stretch your kid’s creativity, so they’ll keep your kid occupied much longer,” Borba says. ## 3. Keep Them Engaged Chandler recalls giving her elementary-school students a homework assignment to place a cookie six inches from an anthill and time how long it took for the critters to devour it. “The parents couldn’t believe how long the kids sat there, watching,” she recalls. You can often keep children busy with little projects like lying on a blanket doodling the shape of the clouds. In addition to science experiments, [arts and crafts](https://www.redbookmag.com/home/decor/g3644/diy-halloween-crafts-for-kids/) are ideal for keeping kids occupied. “When I need 45 minutes of uninterrupted meal-prep time, I set my kids up to make construction-paper place mats with crayons and stickers,” says 42-year-old Suzy Martyn, a mom of four in Cypress, CA. While experts say there’s nothing wrong with occasionally plunking your kid in front of the TV for 30 minutes, your goal is helping your child discover pastimes that require his active participation. “Children who always depend on someone or something else, like television or video games, to stimulate them have a hard time taking responsibility for their own well-being as adults,” Paul warns. “Encouraging your child to develop passions makes him better equipped to handle life’s challenges.” ## 4. Surrender to Sloppy Most kids love little more than a big mess, and making one can occupy them for hours. “I dug a hole in the yard, gave my daughter the hose, and told her to make a mud puddle,” says Bethel, CT, writer Jen Matlack, 39. “She squashed around for a whole afternoon while I gardened.” Soil-encrusted clothes and tornado-like clutter may be rough on those of us with neatnik tendencies, but they’re worth the cleanup. “Making a mess encourages kids to experiment and learn,” Paul says. From lining the playroom with an old shower curtain so your child can finger paint with abandon to letting him co-opt all the pillows in the house to build a killer fort, figure out ways to make your child’s creative chaos tolerable for you. “We got rid of all the knickknacks so the kids can build castles in the dining room,” says Julie Parrish, 35, a mother of three in West Linn, OR. “Yes, our house is messier than our friends’ homes, but I was able to study for an MBA in the evenings, and my husband and I get to sit down after dinner for a [game](https://www.redbookmag.com/life/mom-kids/g3186/bep-best-family-board-games/) of Scrabble while the boys play.” ## 5. Encourage Learning If you think school-age kids are over learning by the time they get home, think again. Giving your kiddo something interesting to work on will [keep their mind going](https://www.redbookmag.com/body/health-fitness/g4645/pediatrician-tips-for-healthy-kids/) — and give you a second to breathe. “Every other Monday, I send home a skills bag to encourage review over the things we’re learning in class. Talk with your child’s teacher and ask what themes or topics they’re focusing on so you can put together a work folder of things they can practice at home, too,” says Karlissa Westpfahl, an elementary school teacher at [Cedar Rapids Day School](http://crdayschool.com/). When you’re putting together the folder, Westpfahl recommends including a variety of different types of activities so it keeps it interesting. “They could do color by number pages, some matching, practice their reading, letter tracing, go over their color words, numbers, sight words, and shapes — there are many exciting things you can include in their folder to make learning fun.” And, having them spend their alone time doing educational activities pays off: “They’ll be so proud to show you what they did after they’re done working. And they’ll learn a lot in the process.” ## 6. Keep Them Active When you picture (finally) getting some alone time, you probably think your best bet is having your child stay put — but allowing them to be active might just be the way to go. “Every Thursday, I do meditation or yoga in class,” Westpfahl says. “It’s very important for kids because they never get a break from thinking. Because they’re so young and most things are new to them, their minds are constantly running — this is why meditation is such a great way for children to free their minds.” To give their mind a break — and to give [you a break](https://www.redbookmag.com/home/news/g4077/bedroom-decorating-ideas/), too — introduce your child to the relaxing exercise. (This is an exception to the screen time rule!) “There are plenty of great yoga videos for kids — I love [Cosmic Kids Yoga](https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga) on YouTube. We have weekly themes, and she often has the perfect video to compliment what we’re learning. Sometimes, it’s even fun to choose a random one that the children will be particularly interested in, like *Star Wars*,” Westpfahl says. And if you don’t think your child will be into it, just wait and see; you might be surprised. “Sometimes I just stand there and smile because they take the poses so seriously. Do it with them a couple times to introduce them to it, then let it turn into something special they’ve earned to do on their own. You can even get them their own yoga outfit and mat,” she continues. “And you’ll both reap the benefits: It makes them better listeners, nicer to their friends, and more respectful to others, all while calming them down and relaxing their body and mind after a busy day of learning.” ## 7. Help Them Shut Their Minds Off Speaking of giving your child a mental break, there’s another tactic you can use that will have them hanging out by themselves for way longer than you think: creating a [quiet corner](https://www.redbookmag.com/life/mom-kids/g4653/best-baby-books/). Sounds like a dream, huh? “A quiet corner not only gives moms a little break away from their kids for some ‘me’-time, but kids need ‘me’-time, too,” Westpfahl says. “Set up a little space for them somewhere in the house with a table, and make a mesmerizing ‘calm down’ snow globe of baby oil, glitter, and little toys — there are plenty of tutorials on Pinterest! Kinetic sand is great too … just some really mindless, relaxing activities. You can even let them decorate their area with their own artwork, build a fort to lie in — whatever it takes to allow them to create a space they love and are excited to go spend time in.” Here is the link to this full article As kids get older it can be harder to keep them away from electronics. Some video games may even prove to be beneficial for career training and future endeavors. It is important to remember that kids and teens require an hour of being physically active each day to keep their physical and mental health in check. Screen time is not a replacement for spending time outdoors, reading and other creative outlets like drawing, building and music. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [Fun and Educational Activities for Kids at Home](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/fun-and-educational-activities-for-kids-at-home/) **Published:** June 22, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** Let’s face it: It is not easy to entertain and teach kids simultaneously at home, as it looks like taming a whirlwind while juggling flaming torches. Worry not, dear parents, caregivers and sanity-seekers! Below are a few creative and enjoyable learning activities that will help you occupy your little tornadoes while they add wholesome knowledge to what they know. They say it is not always easy to make learning enjoyable. Here’s to proving them wrong! ## 1 Kitchen Science Experiments Take your kitchen to a whole new level! Turn your kitchen into a mad scientist’s lab! From baking soda volcanoes to homemade slime, children and adults know that the simplest things can be mind-blowingly occupying and fascinating. Here are some great chemistry experiments for kids: pour vinegar and baking soda and see what magic unfolds before your eyes, or dissolve sugar in water and drop it in a glass of water to see the color change into a beautiful rainbow. These activities introduce our little participants to basic chemistry and make a mess that is, optimistically, worth it. ## 2 Storybook Theater Encourage your kids to dramatize a play based on the storybook you read them. Through the use of common household products, they learn different skills, such as writing scripts, making costumes, and constructing sets. Educational activities for children like these are a smart way to teach children to comprehend and use their imagination, and it can be a lot of fun in a very funny way if Mom and Dad decide to take the roles of the characters. ## 3 DIY Art Gallery Create an art station and give your kids the freedom to paint, draw, and create with whatever scraps of materials they can find. As soon as the children have finished their masterpieces, invite your family to host a family art show. This not only helps to spur their creativity but also increases their level of self-esteem as they explain their work to an enthusiastic crowd. ## 4 Indoor Treasure Hunt Create a treasure map and scatter clues around the house to the path that leads to the “treasure,” which can be a toy or a sweet. This activity is perfect for creativity and problem-solving and can turn a normal day into an exciting treasure hunt. On the other hand, it may grant you a few minutes of solitude while they look for evidence! ## 5 Reading Bingo Make a bingo sheet where each square is a different and fun reading activity (for example, reading a book with a blue cover, reading under the table, or reading to a pet). Bingo cards have been designed so that while carrying out each task, they cross it off the card. This makes reading more enjoyable and helps them develop an interest in some of the different categories of books and settings. ## 6 Kitchen Math Making cooking a math lesson turns the art of cooking into an educational process where children learn mathematical lessons. Your little one can measure quantities, double recipes, or even half them, and in the process, learn about fractions and volumes. They will be able to whip up something tasty to eat as they consolidate their energies and efforts. Learning math while tasting what you are learning has never been easier! ## 7 Nature Journal If you can’t make it to the park, then just bring the park to you! Let your kids gather leaves and flowers, or simply watch insects in the backyard! They can then draw their findings and write a few sentences about them in a nature journal about their observation and the environment. It enhances the child’s ability to conduct observations and also fosters appreciation of the ecosystem. ## 8 Homemade Board Games Why not have a family board evening and create one yourself? The game design could involve writing the concepts on the blackboard, drawing the game on a giant piece of paper, and using domestic objects for the game’s elements. This project involves creative ability, strategic aptitude, and thinking skills. And, of course, it’s an opportunity to experience completely new educational games for kids at home that can be fun for everyone in the family! ## Final Thoughts The opportunity to include fun and learning activities at home helps to enhance your child’s development greatly. All of these activities assist in academic development and, at the same time, promote emotional, social, and motor development. Your little one can develop creativity and imagination, learn adaptability and resilience, and experience a much beneficial family bonding time! At Creative World of Learning, we urge all parents, guardians and caregivers to prepare your tiny tot for success on both the academic and social front, laying the foundation for a well-balanced and strong-willed personality prepared to take on the challenges of the world! ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [Family Traditions Matter](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/family-traditions-matter/) **Published:** June 22, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** *The importance of being deliberate with your family* According to an article published by the Atlantic Daily, forty-seven percent of the time, the average mind is wandering. Many phycologists believe that a wandering mind is not good for ones well-being. As humans (kids and adults), we have a hard time staying focused and living in the moment. There are breathing and meditation techniques that can help us be more present in our daily lives, but chances are our minds will wander. If our minds are going to wander (and they are), research shows that wandering minds focused on upcoming experiences or past shared experiences tend to be more happy then those without experiences to reflect on, or anticipate. By creating regular experiences for our family members to look forward to, we can help their thoughts stay positive. Family traditions are behaviors and actions that you engage in again and again – regular rituals that you perform at the same time and/or in the same way. Some traditions happen daily, other once a week, and some just once a year. So, how do family traditions fit into the solution? An article published in 2013, *Creating a Positive Family Culture: The Importance of Establishing Family Traditions* in The Art of Manliness (authored by Brett & Kate McKay) gave 8 reasons why and how family traditions help our wandering minds stay positive. Below is an abbreviated version of the article. ## 1. Provide a source of identity. Traditions and rituals often tell a story about a family. On the macro level, traditions can teach children where their family came from or give them insights into their cultural or religious history (e.g. eating tamales on Christmas Eve to celebrate your Mexican heritage). On a more micro level, traditions can serve as reminders of events that have shaped your family and your children (e.g. every year your family rents the same lake house, and each time you go it reminds you of all the experiences you’ve had on previous trips). ## 2. Strengthen the family bond. Researchers have consistently found that families that engage in frequent traditions report stronger connection and unity than families that haven’t established rituals together. Traditions provide an all-too-rare chance for face-to-face interaction, help family members get to know and trust each other more intimately, and create a bond that comes from feeling that one is part of something unique and special. ## 3. Offer comfort and security. Family traditions and rituals are the antidote to the harried feeling that comes from our fast-paced and ever-changing world. It’s comforting to have a few constants in your life. Traditions can thus be particularly effective during times of change and grief. Maybe you’ve moved your family to a new state and everything is new and strange for your kids, but at least they know that every Tuesday is still pizza night and every Saturday morning they can still count on going on a bike ride with dad. ## 4. Teach values. One of the main purposes of rituals, whether religious or secular, is to impart and reinforce values. The same goes with family traditions. Through daily family prayer, the importance of faith is re-enforced; through nightly bedtime stories, the value of education, reading, and life-long learning is inculcated; and through regular family dinners or activities, the centrality of familial solidarity is instilled. ## 5. Add to the rhythm and seasonality of life. Our world and universe are composed of cycles big and small – sunrise and sunset, death and rebirth, winter, spring, summer, and fall. A circular conception of time and a desire to follow the natural rhythm of the days and the seasons is embedded deep within us, but has been flattened out in a modern age that creates its own timetable and concentrates only on the present. In the Middle Ages, peasants had 150 days of the year for rest, feasts, and holidays; their life was hard but the cycles of work and celebration followed a steady rhythm. These days we can’t take off half the year to participate in traditions, but we can establish small, regular rituals that give us and our children unchanging wayposts both to look forward to in anticipation, and look back on with satisfaction. ## 6. Pass on cultural and religious heritage. Many family traditions have been passed down through multiple generations. Continuing them in your own family is a great way to teach your children about your family’s cultural and religious history, thus adding to their personal identity. If you’re having a hard time coming up with traditions for your new family, your family history is a great place to mine for them. ## 7. Connect generations. Sociologists and family researchers have found that children who have a high level of grandparental involvement have fewer emotional and behavioral problems. Moreover, high grandparental involvement is also correlated with lower maternal stress and higher involvement from dad. Family traditions are a great way to cultivate that valuable grandparental involvement. Growing up, our family would trek out to New Mexico to spend Thanksgiving at my grandpa’s ranch. I’ve got lots of great memories of helping my grandpa with chores and riding horses with him. ## 8. Create lasting memories. In her book *Ask the Children*, Ellen Galinsky, cofounder of the Families and Work Institute, describes a survey in which she asked children what they would remember most about their childhood. Most of the kids responded by talking about simple, everyday traditions like family dinners, holiday get-togethers, and bedtime stories. Those positive childhood memories can help make your child a happier and more generous adult. While psychologists used to consider nostalgia a sign of depression, recent research has shown that reflecting fondly on one’s past actually provides a myriad of positive benefits including counteracting loneliness, boosting generosity towards strangers, and staving off anxiety. Be deliberate as 2019 comes to an end, and we look forward to 2020 with your family. Think back to your childhood and make sure you are passing down those traditions you cherish and creating new ones unique for the future. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ### [The Rise of Sensory Play: What TikTok Moms Are Teaching Us About Child Development](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/the-rise-of-sensory-play-what-tiktok-moms-are-teaching-us-about-child-development/) **Published:** April 29, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** ## Sensory Play and Social Media’s Influence If you’ve scrolled through TikTok recently, you’ve probably seen the rise of creative and fun sensory play ideas flooding parents’ feeds. TikTok has become a vibrant space where parents share innovative educational activities that help toddlers develop critical skills—often through sensory play. From colorful water beads to textured sensory bins, the possibilities are endless. But what exactly is sensory play, and why is it being embraced by parents across the world? Sensory play involves activities that engage a child’s senses—touch, sight, smell, hearing, and sometimes taste. It’s not just about fun and mess; sensory play is a powerful tool that promotes cognitive development, motor skills, emotional regulation, and much more. At Creative World of Learning, we’ve long understood the benefits of sensory activities. In this blog, we’ll dive into the growing trend of sensory play on TikTok, its benefits for child development, and how you can incorporate it into your child’s learning routine. ## What is Sensory Play? Sensory play is any activity that stimulates a child’s senses. It includes playing with materials that engage a child’s sense of touch, sight, sound, taste, or smell. Sensory play helps young children explore their world and develop important cognitive, social, and motor skills. *For example, common sensory play activities include:* - [**Sensory Bins**](https://livethescottcottage.com/2022/02/25/80-sensory-bin-ideas-for-kids/#:~:text=Chickpeas%20are%20one%20of%20Qs,Halloween%20Sensory%20Bin): These are containers filled with materials like rice, beans, sand, or water beads that children can touch, scoop, pour, and explore. - [**Finger Painting**](https://raisingchildren.net.au/guides/activity-guides/making-and-building/finger-painting-1-3-years): Engaging in art activities that involve touch, sight, and sometimes smell, like mixing colors or using different textures. - **[Sound Exploration](https://www.twinkl.com/blog/science-experiments-to-explore-sound-for-kids):** Listening to different sounds and learning to distinguish between them—whether through musical instruments, nature sounds, or voice mimicking. ## Why is Sensory Play Important for Toddlers? Sensory play offers more than just entertainment for kids—it’s crucial for their development. Here are some of the key benefits: 1. **Cognitive Development:** Sensory activities stimulate the brain and help children understand the world around them. When toddlers engage in sensory play, they practice problem-solving and critical thinking. For example, they may experiment with how different textures feel or how liquids move. 2. **Fine and Gross Motor Skills**: Activities like pouring, scooping, and squeezing help develop fine motor skills, which are important for tasks like writing and buttoning shirts. Gross motor skills, like crawling through sensory tunnels or jumping in puddles, help with balance and coordination. 3. **Emotional Regulation**: Sensory play can also help toddlers regulate their emotions. Activities that involve touch and movement can calm anxious or overstimulated children, providing a healthy outlet for big emotions. 4. **Social Skills**: Sensory play often happens in groups, making it a great way to teach sharing, cooperation, and communication. As children engage in sensory play together, they learn important social-emotional skills like empathy and teamwork. ## TikTok’s Role in Promoting Sensory Play Trends TikTok has become a hub for parents and caregivers to share creative, budget-friendly sensory play ideas. Thanks to the platform’s short-form videos, parents can discover new, easy-to-do sensory activities from around the world. - **[DIY Sensory Bins](https://www.tiktok.com/@preschoolpackets/video/7410451241790213407):** TikTok videos often feature DIY sensory bins made from affordable materials like rice, pasta, or fabric. Parents can quickly assemble these bins at home for hours of exploration. - [**Rainbow Sensory Play:**](https://www.tiktok.com/@preschoolpackets/video/7420584898915847455) Colorful sensory play activities, like rainbow rice or rainbow water play, are visually stimulating and perfect for engaging toddlers’ senses. - [**Nature-Inspired Play**](https://www.tiktok.com/@andrea.nelson.art/video/7011199471841316101): Many TikTok parents are incorporating natural materials like leaves, flowers, and stones into their sensory bins, encouraging kids to connect with nature. ## How Creative World of Learning Incorporates Sensory Play At Creative World of Learning, sensory play is a core part of our curriculum. We understand that young children learn best when they can touch, explore, and experience the world around them. Here’s how we incorporate sensory play into our daily routines: - **Purposeful Sensory Stations:** In our classrooms, we set up sensory stations where children can explore various textures, sounds, and colors, fostering a hands-on learning experience. - **Guided Exploration**: Educators guide children through sensory activities, encouraging them to describe what they feel, hear, or see, which enhances their language and communication skills. - **Sensory Integration with Other Learning**: We integrate sensory play into other activities, such as art projects or science experiments, to help children make connections between the senses and academic concepts. ## How You Can Incorporate Sensory Play at Home You don’t need to be a TikTok star to introduce sensory play at home. Here are some simple ideas to get started: 1. **DIY Sensory Bins:** Fill a plastic container with rice, beans, or sand. Add small toys, scoops, and containers for exploration. 2. **Water Play:** Set up a water table with cups, spoons, and different objects to float or sink. Let your toddler experiment with cause and effect. 3. **Textured Crafts:** Use materials like fabric, sponges, and cotton balls for finger painting or textured collages. 4. **Sound Exploration:** Use musical instruments or make your own sound-shakers with rice and plastic bottles. ## Conclusion: Sensory Play as a Lifelong Learning Tool Sensory play is an essential part of early childhood development, and thanks to platforms like TikTok, parents now have easy access to creative ideas that make learning fun. At Creative World of Learning, we embrace the power of sensory play as a tool to foster cognitive, emotional, and social growth in toddlers. Whether through DIY sensory bins or nature-inspired activities, there’s no limit to the opportunities for learning and fun. Want to see how we incorporate sensory play into our curriculum? What goes on during these early years can have a big effect on their future success. In preschool, children learn to think, solve problems, and interact with others. Early childhood education helps children grow mentally, emotionally, and socially, setting them up for success in the future. Studies show that the things kids learn in preschool help their brains grow and prepare them for school. Preschool helps a child become confident, curious, and ready to learn more as he grows. In this article, we will discuss the factors to consider when choosing the preschool for your child. ## Key Factors for Parents to Consider When Choosing a Preschool ### 1. Understanding Your Child’s Needs Every child differs, having a unique character, interests, and way of learning. When parents decide on selecting the preschool, they ought to consider the qualities that suit the child best. Probably some children like a strictly managed environment where everything, routine, and expectations are properly laid out; others feel much better in a more careless atmosphere where everything is there, but still, time has to be taken up in the course of achieving everything. That will determine the preschool they will get into, hence the better a preschool the child will end up being in. By observing the child’s reactions to the different situations he or she encounters, you might get an idea of the kind of environment that is likely to help him or her. ### 2. Understand Different Preschool Philosophies There are different learning styles for preschools, and one must choose one that best fits their child. Here are some of the common approaches. #### 1. Montessori Learning through hands-on experiences and self-reliance. Children learn at their own pace. Pros: The child becomes independent and self-disciplined. Cons: Very costly and not ideal for children who need constant direction. #### 2. Play-Based Learning Children learn through play while teachers facilitate but do not dictate. Pros: Encourages creativity and socialization. Cons: Lacks academic focus for some children. #### 3. Academic-Focused Early academic skills such as reading and math. Pros: Prepares children for formal schooling. Cons: Too rigid for some children. #### 4. Reggio Emilia Creativity and self-expression through art and communication. Pros: Encourages creativity and personal expression. Cons: Requires active parental involvement. #### 5. Waldorf Creativity, nature, and holistic development. Pros: Encourages imagination and emotional growth. Cons: Less emphasis on academics. Each philosophy has its strengths, so choosing the right one depends on your child’s learning style and needs. ### 3. Have a Nurturing Environment A nurturing environment of a preschool is always warm, friendly, engaging, and protective of the children’s needs. Therefore, at this point, children are under the umbrella of the building of mutual relations between children and a teacher. With the overall help of guidance, children’s self-development goes hand-in-hand with social skill development and emotional growth and growth in interactions with an attitude of shared and mutually positive communications regarding sharing one’s emotions, etc. A nurturing setting helps children develop self-confidence and a sense of belonging, encouraging them to express themselves, try new things, and build healthy relationships with others. This foundation supports their overall development, helping them thrive both in preschool and beyond. ### 4. Check Teacher-Student Ratios The number of students in a class compared to the teacher is very important. The more the class is small, the more attention each student can get from teachers. More time can be spent with each child on their learning and dealing with the personal needs of children. That way, they feel cared for and involved in their lesson. With more individual attention, children can ask questions, get help when needed, and learn at their own pace. Smaller classes also allow teachers to build stronger relationships with students, making them feel more comfortable and confident in the classroom. ### 5. Observe Facilities and Resources A safe and well-equipped classroom setting is a fundamental factor to ensure young children can feel comfortable and get excited about learning. This space should be full of appropriate resources such as books, toys, and materials for creative activities to get children exploring and involved. Outdoor play areas also constitute an important element of early childhood education where children have ample opportunity to play and learn physically in natural settings. Sensory tools, such as textured objects or musical instruments, can help children develop their senses and enhance learning. Creative spaces for activities like drawing, building, or painting allow children to express themselves and develop problem-solving skills. Having a classroom filled with these resources supports children’s natural curiosity and helps them grow in all areas. ## Finding the Right Fit: Visiting and Asking Questions A child needs to be placed in a preschool that is appropriately designed for him or her. The best way for that to happen is if one were to visit some schools, observe the classes, and ask questions as he or she does so. Such a visit will therefore let one know exactly how school goes and whether it actually serves his or her needs. Spend time during your visit looking at the environment in the school, how teachers deal with the children, and what they are doing. ### Some important questions to ask when visiting: Here are some important questions to ask when visiting. - How do teachers manage discipline and guide behavior? - How does the school handle learning differences or special needs? - What types of activities are included in the daily routine? - How does the school support social and emotional development? - How are children encouraged to explore and learn independently? - What is the teacher-student ratio in each class? - How does the school communicate with parents about progress and activities? - All this would be determined by asking pertinent questions and observing the given environment to make an educated decision on which preschool might best suit your child. ## Conclusion Consider your child’s needs, the style of teaching that works for them, and how safe and supportive the school environment is. Take your time to visit different schools to see how they help children grow and learn. Ask questions, observe how the teachers interact with the kids, and ensure that the school feels like the right fit for your child. The preschool you choose will be an important part of your child’s early learning, so it’s worth making the right decision for their future. From the crisp crunch of snow beneath your boots to the feeling of ice-cold water on your skin, winter provides a wealth of sensory experiences that stimulate the senses and encourage hands-on learning. Sensory play isn’t just fun—it also helps young children develop fine motor skills, cognitive abilities, emotional regulation, and creativity. These activities are a wonderful way to bond with your child while giving them the tools they need to grow and explore. Here are some winter-themed sensory play ideas that will keep your child entertained, engaged, and learning all season long: --- ### **1. Frozen Sensory Bins: A Chill Way to Play** Frozen sensory bins are a fantastic way to incorporate the magic of winter while engaging your child in a variety of sensory experiences. The cold, slippery textures of ice and snow provide endless opportunities for exploration, fine motor practice, and imaginative play. **How to Set Up:** - **Materials:** Use a shallow bin and fill it with fake snow, ice cubes, or snow-like materials (like cotton balls, shredded coconut, or even baking soda). - **Add Toys:** Include small toys like plastic animals, snowmen figurines, or trucks for added play. You can freeze small toys inside ice cubes or blocks of ice for an extra challenge. - **Interactive Fun:** Once the ice is frozen, encourage your child to “rescue” the frozen toys using warm water and small spoons, droppers, or syringes. As parents, setting educational resolutions not only encourages your child to grow and develop in key areas, but it also builds a sense of responsibility and accomplishment. Whether your child is in preschool or elementary school, these New Year’s resolutions can guide you and your child toward a year full of learning and personal growth. **Why Set Educational Goals for Your Kids?** New Year’s resolutions are often associated with personal growth, but for children, this tradition can be an exciting opportunity to make learning a key part of the year ahead. Research shows that children thrive when they have specific goals and milestones to reach. It helps them stay motivated, builds their self-esteem, and teaches them the importance of perseverance. Educational goals are not just about academic achievements—they can encompass social, emotional, and behavioral skills as well. By setting goals for your child in various areas, you’re encouraging a holistic approach to development, one that nurtures their confidence, independence, and love for learning. **How to Set Realistic and Fun Educational Resolutions** Setting resolutions doesn’t have to be a daunting task! Here’s how you can make it enjoyable, effective, and manageable for both you and your child: **1. Involve Your Child in the Process** The key to successful resolutions is engagement. Involve your child in the goal-setting process by asking them what they’d like to achieve. Whether it’s learning to read a certain number of books, improving math skills, or learning how to tie their shoes, children feel more empowered when they are part of the decision-making process. This gives them ownership over their progress and makes the journey fun. **2. Keep Goals Specific, Measurable, and Achievable** Make sure the resolutions are clear, actionable, and achievable. Instead of vague goals like “be a better reader,” aim for something specific: “Read three books independently this month” or “Complete 20 minutes of reading five times a week.” This will help you track progress and celebrate small wins along the way. **3. Incorporate a Balance of Academics and Life Skills** While academic goals are important, don’t forget about life skills like responsibility, self-discipline, and emotional intelligence. You could include goals like: - **Emotional Regulation**: “Take 5 deep breaths before reacting when feeling frustrated.” - **Social Skills**: “Invite a friend to play every week” or “Share toys without reminders.” - **Time Management**: “Complete homework before playtime.” By setting goals in multiple areas of development, you’re fostering a well-rounded child. **4. Create a Visual Progress Tracker** Use a fun visual tracker to help your child stay on course. This could be a colorful chart, sticker system, or even an interactive app where your child can check off completed tasks. Visual trackers make goals feel more tangible and rewarding. **5. Celebrate Achievements (Big or Small)** Don’t wait until the end of the year to celebrate! Recognizing achievements, no matter how small, boosts motivation and makes the learning process feel exciting. Consider creating a rewards system, where each milestone is celebrated with a fun activity or treat. **Examples of Educational Resolutions to Set** Here are some resolution ideas that can cater to a wide range of ages and learning levels: - **Preschoolers**: - Learn the alphabet song without help. - Practice counting to 20 daily. - Engage in sensory play once a week to foster creativity and fine motor skills. - **Elementary Schoolers**: - Read 30 minutes a day. - Master multiplication tables by the end of the school year. - Complete one creative project each month (art, writing, or science-based). - **Tweens**: - Keep a daily journal to improve writing skills. - Set a goal to learn one new thing each week (new fact, skill, or hobby). - Volunteer for a community service project to develop empathy and leadership skills. **Tips for Staying on Track with Educational Resolutions** Even the best-laid plans need a little follow-through. Here are some tips to ensure you and your child stay on track: - **Consistency**: Set a regular time for activities related to the goal, like reading before bed or doing math drills every morning. - **Flexibility**: Don’t be afraid to adjust goals if they feel too difficult or if new interests develop. - **Check-ins**: Regularly assess progress together. Ask your child how they feel about their goals and if they want to change anything. As a parent, you’re your child’s biggest cheerleader. With a positive attitude and a growth mindset, your child’s educational goals are sure to be a success this year! As parents, we often find ourselves navigating the delicate balance between traditional, play-based learning and the expanding world of digital tools. With virtual learning becoming a significant part of early education, how can we ensure our children benefit from technology without overwhelming them with excessive screen time? At **Creative World of Learning**, we are embracing the future of education by combining innovative digital tools with our hands-on, play-based curriculum. In this blog post, we’ll explore the rise of virtual learning for toddlers, the role of **digital media in early childhood education**, and how we can leverage technology to enhance learning while keeping real-world play and interaction at the heart of a child’s development. ##### **The Growing Role of Virtual Learning in Early Childhood Education** Virtual learning is no longer a niche element of education—it has become an integral part of how children learn. Platforms like Zoom, YouTube, and educational apps are increasingly woven into children’s daily routines. While these digital tools offer exciting learning opportunities, many parents wonder: How much screen time is too much for toddlers, and how can we strike the right balance? ##### **Why Virtual Learning Can Benefit Toddlers** When used in moderation and with purpose, digital learning tools can significantly support early childhood development. Here’s how: - **Interactive Learning:** Many virtual learning platforms feature interactive games, videos, and activities that actively engage children with the material. This kind of hands-on interaction can boost cognitive development, help toddlers practice problem-solving, and encourage them to learn in a fun and dynamic way. - **Access to a Wealth of Resources:** The digital world opens up a vast library of educational content. From interactive games and videos to virtual field trips, children can access a wealth of knowledge and experiences that might not be available locally. This exposure to new ideas, languages, and concepts can expand their worldview and enrich their learning. - **Supporting Language Development:** Educational apps, songs, and videos with repetitive elements, rhymes, and visual aids are fantastic for language development. Toddlers can expand their vocabulary, improve their listening skills, and begin to understand basic sentence structures in a highly engaging way. - **Flexible Learning Opportunities:** Virtual learning provides flexibility in how and when learning happens. Whether during family time, while traveling, or on a rainy day, digital tools allow for spontaneous learning moments that can easily fit into a busy schedule. ##### **Striking a Balance: Integrating Virtual Learning with Traditional Play** At Creative World of Learning, we believe that a balanced approach is essential to a child’s growth and development. While digital tools have their place in supporting learning, they should never replace hands-on play, outdoor activities, or face-to-face interactions with peers and adults. Screen time should be integrated thoughtfully, alongside physical play and social interaction, to create a well-rounded educational experience. Here are a few ways we blend virtual learning with traditional play-based education: - **Supplementary Learning Tools:** We use educational apps, videos, and online resources to reinforce what children are learning through hands-on, tactile activities. For example, after a lesson on numbers using physical counting objects, we might use an educational app that reinforces number recognition or simple addition through fun games. - **Interactive Storytelling:** We incorporate digital storybooks and interactive videos to make storytelling come alive. These resources encourage children to think critically about the content, ask questions, and engage with the material in new ways. Interactive elements, like choosing what happens next in the story, help to develop decision-making skills and creativity. - **Live Virtual Sessions:** In addition to pre-recorded videos, we offer live virtual sessions where children can interact with educators in real time. These sessions might include group storytelling, music classes, or art activities, offering a sense of connection and community even in the digital space. It also gives children the chance to practice social skills, listen to instructions, and participate in collaborative activities from the comfort of home. ##### The Importance of Real-World Play and Social Interaction While digital learning offers unique benefits, the foundation of a toddler’s development is built on real-world experiences. Physical play—whether it’s outdoor exploration, building with blocks, or engaging in creative arts—promotes fine and gross motor skills, social-emotional development, and problem-solving abilities. At **Creative World of Learning**, we prioritize activities that foster peer interaction, such as group games, cooperative tasks, and shared creative experiences. These types of interactions are crucial for building essential social skills like empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. By combining these hands-on, real-world activities with virtual learning, we help children develop holistically—emotionally, cognitively, and socially. ##### **A Balanced Approach to Virtual Learning** As we look toward the future of early education, virtual learning will undoubtedly continue to play an important role. At Creative World of Learning, we are committed to integrating technology in a way that enhances children’s development while maintaining a strong focus on the critical role of play, physical activity, and social interaction. By striking the right balance, we can provide children with the best of both worlds: the educational benefits of digital tools and the developmental advantages of hands-on learning. For instance, they might speak one language at home and can generally learn another one at their preschool. Supporting these children is important because it helps them succeed in both languages at a very young age. In this blog, we will be looking at some useful tips for educators and parents on how to support dual language learners. ## **Tips for Educators** ### **\#1 Create a Welcoming Environment** Firstly, you need to make the preschool environment a little bit more welcoming for the children. To do this, teachers should typically make use of signs and labels in both languages. This can help children feel more comfortable as they can see their home language being used at school. Hence, creating language-rich environments for kids can eventually help them learn a new language more easily. ### **\#2 Use Visual Aids** Visual aids can be more helpful tools. This is because they usually involve pictures, charts, and flashcards. All these tools can enhance the learning experience of children by helping them understand new words in a more playful manner. Hence, these visual aids can eventually help to reinforce learning. ### **\#3 Include Songs and Rhymes** Under the popular dual-language teaching methods, educators can also use songs and rhymes to promote dual-language learning. This is because children usually remember words better when they listen to songs. Therefore, teachers can use some songs or rhyming words to introduce some basic concepts or ideas in both languages. ### **\#4 Promote Peer Interaction** Peer interaction is yet another important factor that can help dual language learners in preschool. Let children talk and play together. Group activities usually help them learn from each other and can enhance their language skills. ### **\#5 Be Patient and Supportive** Patience is crucial in supporting and encouraging young dual language learners. Dual language learners might need a little bit of extra time to respond to and understand the new language. Therefore, you need to give them the required time and space to learn and grow. ## **Tips for Parents** ### **\#1 Read Daily** You can start reading books to your children in both languages. You can technically do this on alternative days and should generally choose some simple and fun stories. This can help your child learn new words and build a love for books. ### **\#2 Talk About Your Day** You should also tell your child how your day was in a mix of both languages and ask them about their day in the same way. This practice will help strengthen the bond between parents and children. Plus, it will help them learn new vocabulary through such interactive sessions. ### **\#3 Play Games** You should play some simple language games with your child that can typically make learning fun. For this, use games that involve new words in both languages. This will eventually help them develop their linguistic abilities in the long run. ### **\#4 Stay Connected with Teachers** You should also talk to their teachers and share information about their language background. This is because communication between parents and teachers will keep their progress report on this particular topic on track. ## **Language Development Activities** ### **\#1 Cooking Activities** Cooking activities can usually be fun and educational. You can start by teaching your child the names of some ingredients and cooking tools in both languages. Then, you can explain simple recipes and discuss each step in both languages. ### **\#2 Practice Role-Playing** You should set up role-playing scenarios for your child, such as a store owner, a restaurant owner, or a doctor. Encourage children to use both languages during their play. This will typically help them practice real-life conversations and improve their linguistic skill set in both languages. ## **Conclusion** Parents and teachers can use the above-mentioned language learning tips to support dual language learners. They help children feel safe and secure by fostering a sense of stability in their world. Consistent routines for a child not only provide a comforting structure but also promote their emotional and cognitive growth. By establishing such routines, parents and caregivers can support the development of children in many ways. In this blog, we are going to learn about how these daily patterns benefit young lerners and hearts. ## Why Are Childcare Routines Important? When children know what will happen next, they feel calm. This helps to reduce stress and anxiety as they know what to expect. Thus, this will eventually help in the overall emotional development of the child. Consistency in daily schedules also helps children understand the concept of time. They learn about the notion of what is morning, afternoon, and evening. Additionally, they will get to know when it is time to eat, play, or sleep. This kind of understanding of time can help them feel more in control. Routines also help children with basic transitions. Transitions generally refer to times when we move from one activity to another. Some children find this hard to do. However, if they have a routine, transitions can become easier to adopt. This is due to the fact that they will know what to expect next. As a result, they can move smoothly from one activity to another. ## Benefits of Child-Consistent Routines ### \#1 Cognitive Growth Consistent routines can help support cognitive growth too. Cognitive growth means how children think, learn, and understand. Children learn a lot of skills when follow a routine. For example, a bedtime routine can help children learn the steps of getting ready for bed. They might brush their teeth, put on pajamas, and then get ready for a story. This can eventually help them understand sequences and how to follow steps in a consistent manner. ### **\#2 Helps To Develop Social Skills** Routines help children learn social skills and also help in child brain development. This is due to the fact that when children follow a routine, they learn to cooperate and share. For example, during playtime, children might take turns using toys. This will help them learn how to get along with others. Moreover, routines can also help children learn responsibility. This is because when children know their routines then they can start to do things on their own. For example, they might put away their toys after playtime. This helps them feel responsible and independent. ### **\#3 Physical Development** Structured routines can generally help support physical development, too. For example, a routine that includes outdoor play can help children get some good exercise. This helps them build strong muscles and stay healthy. Furthermore, a fixed bedtime routine can also help children get enough sleep, which is very important for their physical growth. ## How to Create a Child-Consistent Routine Creating a routine is not that hard. You need to start by thinking about your child’s day. What activities do they do? What times do they do them? Then, make a list of these activities and the preferred time at which these activities will happen. For example, a simple schedule for your child might look like this: - Wake up - Eat breakfast - Bath Time - Playtime - Snack time - Outdoor play - Lunch - Nap time - Snack time - Playtime - Dinner - Storytime - Bedtime You can change the schedule to fit your child’s needs. The most important thing is just to be consistent and make them follow the same schedule every day. ## How to Stick to a Fixed Routine? Sometimes, it is hard to make your child stick to a particular routine. Here are some tips to help: Firstly, some things accidentally might change in the routine, and that’s okay. So, make them go back to the routine as soon as you can. Additionally, add fun activities to the routine. This will help to keep your child interested and engaged throughout the day. Next up, you should also try to talk to your child about their routine. Explain what will happen next. This will eventually help them understand and follow the routine. Last but not least, it takes time to get used to a new routine. Therefore, be patient with your child and yourself. ## Conclusion Fixed routines are very important for young children as they help children learn social skills, build good habits, and support physical development. This type of play usually involves the use of five senses. These five senses are sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Sensory play can be fun and can also help children develop many skills. In this blog, we will learn about the benefits of sensory play and explore some play-based activities that can genuinely help in the overall development of your child. ## **Sensory Play Benefits** ### **\#1 Gross Motor Skills Development** Sensory play activities are usually great for developing both fine and gross motor skills. Activities like climbing, jumping, and balancing can generally help strengthen large muscle groups. Meanwhile, tasks such as playing with clay can help improve hand-eye coordination and other fine motor skills. ### **\#2 Cognitive and Sensory Development** Children can easily learn about the world around them in a better manner through sensory play. These experiences usually help to increase their problem-solving skills and memory. ### **\#3 Language Development** Children describe what they are doing and feeling when they participate in such activities. Thus, sensory play can help in encouraging communication and the use of new vocabulary. ### **\#4 Social Skills** Playing together during sensory activities can typically help children develop some good social skills. This is due to the fact that they learn to share materials, take turns, and cooperate with each other to attain common goals. ## **Sensory Play-Based Activities** Here are some interesting sensory stimulation activities that can help your child learn and grow: ### **\#1 Sight** A very interesting activity that you can do is help your child remember and differentiate between several colors by sorting out the colors. In this, you need to collect different types of blocks or toys for your child that are usually in different colors. Then you need to ask your child to separate them into groups based on the specific color. ### **\#2 Sound** In order to increase their listening skills and environmental awareness, you can generally take your child on a walk in your neighborhood or park. Ask them to listen carefully and then identify different sounds. Secondly, you can also help them develop some good auditory memory and matching skills by creating interesting sound jars. After creating, you should place different items in it like rice, beans, or bells. Let your children shake the jars and match those that make a similar sound. ### **\#3 Touch** You can also try making some homemade clay with your children. This can be usually done by using basic ingredients like flour, salt, water, and food coloring. Allow them to explore the texture of this play dough. This activity will eventually help to increase the strength. ### **\#4 Taste** To help them develop their sense of taste, you can start by providing a good variety of different fruits, like apples, bananas, and strawberries, to your child. Allow your child to taste each one of these and discuss their flavors and textures. ### **\#5 Smell** You can also help your child appreciate nature and increase their sense of smell by collecting some flowers with different scents. Next up, motivate your child to smell each one and describe the scent. To enhance and strengthen the olfactory sensory neurons of your child, you can start by filling up small jars with different spices. This can include cinnamon, cloves, rosemary, etc. Now, let the child smell each jar and then guess the spice. You can also discuss the uses of each spice when cooking with them. These fine motor skills activities are simple and engaging. These will generally help children use their senses to explore the world around them. ## **Learning Through Play** Learning through play is an effective method for young children. It combines fun with education. ### **\#1 Active Learning** Children learn best when they are active participants. Play-based activities engage their minds and bodies. Thus, helping in the overall process of their regular development. ### **\#2 Hands-On Experience** Sensory experiences in education usually provide hands-on experiences. This type of learning is more effective than passive listening. ## **Conclusion** Sensory play-based learning benefits are numerous as we discussed in this blog. In preschool, where children are just beginning to explore the world around them, creative activities play a significant role in nurturing these essential skills. Through art, play, and imaginative exercises, preschoolers learn to think critically and approach challenges with curiosity and creativity. In this blog, we’ll explore how creative activities contribute to the development of critical thinking in young children and offer practical tips for parents and educators to foster this growth. ## **Why is Critical Thinking Important in Early Childhood?** Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information, evaluate different perspectives, and make reasoned decisions. For preschoolers, developing this skill means learning how to approach problems with an open mind, think independently, and explore solutions creatively. Early childhood is a pivotal time for this development, as young minds are highly receptive to new ideas and experiences. **Fostering critical thinking from a young age helps children:** - Problem-Solving: Approach challenges with confidence and creativity. - Decision-Making: Make informed choices by weighing options. - Curiosity: Cultivate a love for learning and exploring new concepts. - Social Interaction: Understand different perspectives and collaborate effectively with others. ## **How Creative Activities Foster Critical Thinking** 1. **Open-Ended Art Projects** Art projects that allow children to express themselves freely without strict guidelines encourage critical thinking. When children are given the freedom to choose their materials, colors, and designs, they must think about how to bring their vision to life. This process involves decision-making, problem-solving, and creativity. ***Example Activity:*** Provide a variety of art supplies, such as colored paper, markers, glue, and recycled materials, and ask the children to create something that represents their favorite animal. There’s no right or wrong way to complete the project, which encourages children to think creatively and make decisions based on their ideas. 2. **Imaginative Play** Imaginative play, such as role-playing or storytelling, is a powerful tool for developing critical thinking. It allows children to explore different scenarios, solve problems, and understand cause and effect. Through imaginative play, children learn to think ahead, plan, and adapt to new situations. ***Example Activity***: Set up a pretend grocery store in the classroom or at home. Encourage children to take on different roles, such as the cashier, shopper, or store manager. As they interact and make decisions within their roles, they practice critical thinking by navigating various challenges and scenarios. 3. **Building and Construction Activities** Building with blocks, Legos, or other construction toys helps children develop spatial awareness, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These activities require children to think critically about how to construct stable structures and how ***Example Activity:*** Challenge the children to build the tallest tower they can using blocks. As they work, they’ll need to think about balance, structure, and stability, which promotes critical thinking and engineering skills. 4. **Puzzles and Brain Games** Puzzles and brain games are excellent tools for developing critical thinking in preschoolers. These activities require children to analyze patterns, recognize relationships, and think logically to solve problems. Puzzles, in particular, help children develop persistence and patience as they work through challenges. ***Example Activity***: Provide age-appropriate puzzles or matching games that require children to think critically about how pieces fit together or how to complete a pattern. Encourage them to discuss their thought process as they work, reinforcing their critical thinking skills. 5. **Science Experiments** Simple science experiments introduce preschoolers to the concepts of observation, hypothesis, and experimentation. By engaging in hands-on activities, children learn to ask questions, make predictions, and analyze outcomes, all of which are key components of critical thinking. ***Example Activity:*** Conduct a simple experiment, such as mixing baking soda and vinegar to create a reaction. Ask the children what they think will happen before conducting the experiment, and then discuss the results. This encourages them to think critically about cause and effect. ## Tips for Parents and Educators to Encourage Critical Thinking - Ask Open-Ended Questions: Encourage children to think deeply by asking questions that don’t have a simple yes or no answer. For example, “Why do you think that happened?” or “How could we solve this problem?” - Encourage Exploration: Provide opportunities for children to explore their environment, try new activities, and experiment with different materials. Allow them to make mistakes and learn from them, which is a key part of developing critical thinking. - Model Critical Thinking: Demonstrate your own thought process when solving problems or making decisions. This can help children understand how to approach challenges thoughtfully and logically. - Create a Supportive Environment: Foster a classroom or home environment where children feel safe to express their ideas, ask questions, and explore different perspectives. Positive reinforcement and encouragement can build their confidence in thinking critically. Creative activities are more than just fun; they are essential tools for developing critical thinking in preschoolers. By engaging in art projects, imaginative play, building activities, puzzles, and simple science experiments, children learn to approach challenges with creativity and curiosity. As parents and educators, we have the opportunity to nurture these skills, setting the stage for a lifetime of learning and problem-solving. While subjects like STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) have long been hailed as crucial for a child’s future success, there’s a rising shift towards another equally important area—social-emotional learning (SEL). But what exactly is SEL, and why is it being considered just as important, if not more, than traditional academic skills? With the influence of digital media, social pressures, and the complexities of today’s world, SEL has emerged as a cornerstone of effective early childhood education. At Creative World of Learning, we recognize that developing a child’s social-emotional skills is vital to their overall well-being and success—not only in school but in life. In this blog post, we’ll explore the critical role SEL plays in child development and how we can cultivate these vital skills, both in the classroom and at home. ## **What is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)?** Social-emotional learning (SEL) refers to the process through which children (and adults) develop the skills necessary to recognize and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. At its core, SEL is about teaching kids how to understand themselves and navigate the social world around them. The importance of these skills has gained momentum, especially as emotional intelligence (EQ) has become a buzzword in both the academic and professional spheres. While STEM subjects are foundational, SEL teaches kids to apply those skills in a real-world context, with compassion and emotional awareness. ## **Why is SEL Becoming So Important in a Digital Age?** In today’s digital age, children are exposed to constant information through various screens. Whether it’s social media, online games, or digital learning platforms, kids are increasingly spending time online—sometimes at the expense of face-to-face social interaction. In this context, developing emotional intelligence is crucial. *Here’s why:* 1. Increased Screen Time and Social Media Pressure: Digital platforms can sometimes amplify negative emotions like anxiety, loneliness, and self-doubt. Children need tools to regulate their emotions in response to digital experiences, whether it’s navigating social media, dealing with online bullying, or understanding the impact of screen time on mental health. 2. Diverse, Global Interactions: The internet has made the world a smaller place, exposing kids to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. SEL helps children manage these interactions with empathy and respect for others’ perspectives. 3. Mental Health Awareness: With the rise of discussions around mental health, SEL plays an essential role in building emotional resilience. It allows children to express their feelings, cope with stress, and make thoughtful decisions, even when faced with challenges. ## **The Key Components of SEL** The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), an organization that is dedicated to advancing the field of SEL, has defined five core competencies that make up SEL: 1. Self-Awareness: Recognizing and understanding one’s emotions and values. Example: A child who can recognize when they’re feeling frustrated and know that it’s okay to take a break. 2. Self-Management: The ability to regulate emotions and behaviors in different situations. Example: A child practicing deep breathing when feeling angry or upset, rather than lashing out. 3. Social Awareness: The ability to understand and empathize with others’ feelings and perspectives. Example: A child noticing when a peer feels left out and making an effort to include them. 4. Relationship Skills: The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships. Example: A child working in a group, practicing good communication and collaboration skills. 5. Responsible Decision-Making: The ability to make thoughtful, ethical decisions based on the situation. Example: A child choosing to report an incident of bullying rather than ignoring it, understanding the impact of their choice. ## **How Creative World of Learning Nurtures SEL in Children** At Creative World of Learning, we believe that building social-emotional intelligence from a young age is crucial for academic and personal success. Our curriculum incorporates SEL into everyday activities, allowing children to practice these skills in a supportive and nurturing environment. - Interactive Play: We integrate social-emotional skills into interactive activities like group games, collaborative art projects, and role-playing. These activities encourage children to communicate, solve problems, and understand others’ emotions in real-time. - Mindfulness Practices: We introduce mindfulness activities to help children focus, manage their emotions, and practice self-regulation. This could include guided breathing exercises, simple yoga, or quiet time to reflect on their feelings. - Storytelling: We use stories to illustrate the importance of empathy, kindness, and making good decisions. Through these stories, children can understand different perspectives and practice putting themselves in others’ shoes. ## **How Parents Can Support SEL at Home** While SEL is a vital part of our classroom environment, parents play an essential role in reinforcing these concepts at home. Here are some easy and effective ways to encourage social-emotional development in your child: 1. Model Emotional Intelligence: Children learn by example. Practice expressing your emotions clearly and calmly. Show them how to manage frustration or disappointment in a healthy way. 2. Foster Empathy: Encourage your child to think about how others are feeling. For example, ask, “How do you think your friend felt when that happened?” or “What could you do to help someone who feels sad?” 3. Provide Opportunities for Social Interaction: Arrange playdates or family activities where your child can practice interacting with others, sharing, and resolving conflicts. 4. Create a Safe Emotional Space: Encourage your child to talk about their feelings without judgment. Validate their emotions and help them label what they are experiencing (“It looks like you’re feeling sad right now, and that’s okay.”). ## **Conclusion: Social-Emotional Learning is a Lifelong Skill** As the digital age continues to evolve, the ability to navigate social interactions, manage emotions, and make responsible decisions is more important than ever. At Creative World of Learning, we are committed to nurturing these skills in every child, ensuring they are not just academically ready for the future but emotionally resilient and empathetic individuals. By prioritizing SEL, we prepare children for a world that requires not only intelligence but also emotional wisdom and interpersonal skills. Acknowledge their inquiries and explore answers together, reinforcing the idea that learning is a shared journey. Practical Tip: Set aside time each week for a “question and answer” session, where your child can ask anything they’re curious about, and you can both research the answers together. Engage in Educational Activities Incorporating learning into everyday life makes education enjoyable and relevant. Everyday Learning: Use mundane activities to teach important concepts. For instance, cooking together can introduce basic math through measurements, while grocery shopping can enhance vocabulary and decision-making skills. Practical Tip: Create themed activity days (like Science Saturday or Art Wednesday) where you engage in specific educational activities related to those themes, fostering deeper understanding and enthusiasm for learning. Read Together Daily Reading is one of the most effective ways to support literacy development. Establishing a daily reading routine can significantly enhance your child’s language skills and comprehension. Shared Reading Experience: Choose a mix of books that reflect your child’s interests and introduce new topics. Take turns reading aloud, discussing characters, and predicting story outcomes to encourage engagement. Practical Tip: Use a “reading log” where your child can record books read and write brief summaries or personal reflections about each one. This promotes comprehension and critical thinking. Celebrate Achievements and Efforts Recognizing and celebrating your child’s achievements boosts their confidence and motivation. Positive Reinforcement: Create a system that rewards efforts, not just outcomes. Praise your child for their hard work, persistence, and creativity, reinforcing the idea that learning is a journey. Practical Tip: Create a “Wall of Fame” where you display your child’s achievements—artwork, projects, or even a list of books they’ve read. This visible recognition fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment. Foster Social Interaction Social skills are a crucial part of a child’s development. Encouraging interactions with peers and adults can help them learn important social cues and emotional intelligence. Playdates and Group Activities: Arrange playdates, join community groups, or participate in extracurricular activities that encourage social interaction and teamwork. Practical Tip: Organize family game nights or collaborative projects that require teamwork, helping your child learn how to communicate effectively and navigate social dynamics. Conclusion Supporting your child’s learning journey at home involves creating a nurturing environment, establishing routines, and engaging in activities that foster curiosity and creativity. By implementing these strategies, parents can enhance their child’s educational experience and promote a lifelong love for learning. In doing so, they empower their children to explore, question, and grow in an ever-evolving world. Knowing about the different learning styles in children is an asset for both parents and educators in this ever-evolving world of academics. At the Creative World of Learning, we believe that by learning more about these styles, we can fine-tune our educational endeavors to make the most of the teaching incorporated into every child’s life. Let us take you through this journey of exploring the different learning styles for kids and how they can help parents support their child’s unique way of learning. ## Foundations of Learning Styles Learning styles are the various approaches or learning preferences in children. While the foundation of the theory behind them is grounded in educational psychology, the applications have broadened and evolved significantly over recent years. Traditionally, the four primary learning styles were visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic—often referred to in their acronym, VARK. Each learning style provides specific strengths and strategies to master your potential. ## Visual Learners: The Power of Imagery For visual students, seeing is believing. These learners process and learn more effectively through information best represented as images, such as diagrams, charts, and videos. Indeed, for visual learners, a picture is worth a thousand words. Strategies that fit such learners include: Mind Mapping: A strategic tool to visually outline the connection between various ideas Infographics: The visual information represented in infographics is more appealing Videos and Animations: Educational videos to watch for better filling in any learning gaps ## Auditory Learners: The Symphony of Sound Auditory learners learn best by hearing. For such students, be it a lecture, podcast, or group discussion, the information input is most effective in an auditory form. To enhance learning, such learners should engage in: Discussions: Study group discussion or dialogue helps you capture the thoughts verbally Recordings: Record your lecture or listen to podcasts on relevant educational topics Mnemonics: Rhymes or songs to remember information ## Reading/Writing Learners: The Love for Words Learners in this category like to interact with text, such as by reading. They benefit from reading and writing activities and find comfort with textbooks, notes, and written exercises. Some strategies that are effective with this group of learners include: Writing Notes: Comprehensive notes during lectures, specifically about concepts. Reading: Comprehensively reading through as many texts as possible to learn extensively. Summarizing: Summarizing the information that has been taught in their own words. ## Kinesthetic Learners: Learning by Doing Kinesthetic learners are hands-on and learn best when they can experiment with learning through physical activity and real-life experiences. They prefer to engage in activities that give them the actual experience of movement and touch. Activities to cater to kinesthetic learners include: Conducting hands-on activities, experiments, or practical tasks that offer an application of the concepts learned Role-play with hands-on displays to mimic real-world applications Include gestures or movements with studies. Holistic Approach: Blending Learning Styles ## How To Support Your Child’s Learning Style As parents, we want to do everything possible to give our children the best education and the right kind of development. One powerful way to do this is by understanding the ways in which children garner information. Every child, in fact, has his or her distinctive style of obtaining and processing information. Parents must be alert and cautious to identify and start adapting teaching methods and set platforms where their kids can meet their optimum potential. Once you’ve identified your child’s learning style, you can create an environment that supports their preferred way of learning Start by preparing a learning environment corresponding to your child’s learning style. For example, a visual student requires lots of wall space for charts, maps, and other materials. This means creating a space or environment in which to learn. A visual child might benefit most from a study space with many visuals, whereas a kinesthetic child might require space to move around. ## Final Thoughts Understanding and identifying learning styles in children is a powerful tool to support their educational journey and gives teachers and parents a great foundation for education. By recognizing whether they are visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or reading/writing learners, you can tailor your support to match their needs. Through customized teaching methods geared towards individual preferences, the environment created for the child is inclusive and more effective. Whether through visual aids, auditory stimuli, participation in a hands-on activity, or reading and writing exercises, each child can find his or her way to success. At the [Creative World of Learning](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/about/), we believe that through the recognition and appreciation of these differences, we can ensure every child achieves their full potential. So, we urge all parents to spend a little time understanding our little learners and guiding them on the educational journey with empathy and creativity. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Childhood Education --- ### [Healthy Snack Ideas for Young Children](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/healthy-snack-ideas-for-young-children/) **Published:** June 23, 2026 **Author:** Cwl Admin **Content:** We all want the best for our children, and this is especially true when it comes to their health. Healthy snacks can play a huge role in this journey. This is because snacks provide the required energy and essential nutrients for children. Thus, this helps them grow, learn, and play. But, finding snacks that are both healthy and creative for young children can be a bit challenging. In this blog, we will share some easy and nutritious snack recipes. These snacks are simple to make and delicious, and your kids will love them. ## Making A Healthy Snack Plan For Your Kids Children need many essential nutrients to grow and develop in a healthy manner. Some important nutrients include proteins for muscle building and calcium. Calcium is important for their strong bones. Additionally, vitamins A, C, and D are all important for their overall health. So, let’s first learn about a healthy snacking pattern before we learn about some delicious snack recipes. First and foremost, you should try to give your child at least two snacks a day. Include these snacks in between meals. This will prevent them from being extremely hungry and will keep them full. Secondly, you should try to include children in this selection and preparation process of snacks. As a result, they might become more motivated to eat healthy. Moreover, you can also give your snacks some creative names to make them more enjoyable. ## Easy To Make And Healthy Snacks For Your Kids ### 1 Apple Slices with Peanut Butter Apple slices with peanut butter are a classic and healthy party snack for kids. This snack is delicious and provides protein and healthy fats from the peanut butter. For this, you will only need some apples and peanut butter of your choice. You can also take any other nut butter. **Instructions:** Firstly, you need to wash the apples. Then cut them into slices. The next step is to spread a thin layer of peanut butter on each apple slice. Serve them immediately. ### 2 Banana And Oat Cookies Banana and oat cookies are a healthy snack for preschoolers. They are better than regular cookies. To make these, you need 2 ripe bananas and a cup of oats. Additionally, you can also add a handful of chocolate chips. If you don’t want choco chips then you can add some raisins. **Instructions:** Firstly, you need to preheat your oven to a temperature of 350°F (175°C). Then, mash the bananas in a bowl. After this, mix the oats and chocolate chips or raisins. The next step is to transfer this mixture onto a baking sheet. Bake these for about 15 minutes. Wait for it until the cookies are golden brown. Let the cookies cool before serving. ### 3 Frozen Yogurt Pops Frozen yogurt pops are a good way to get a healthy snack. These are perfect for hot sunny days. For this, you will need Yogurt, some fresh fruits, and a little bit of Honey which is optional. **Instructions**: Firstly, blend the Yogurt, fruit, and Honey in a blender. Then, pour the mixture into some popsicle molds. The next step is to freeze these for a few hours. Serve them when they are cool. ### 4 Veggie Sticks With Hummus Veggie sticks with hummus are a crunchy and satisfying snack. Hummus is made from chickpeas. Thus, it is a great source of protein and fiber. For this recipe, you will need carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, and hummus. **Instructions:** Firstly, wash and peel the carrots and cucumbers. Then, cut the carrots and cucumbers into sticks. Now, slice the bell peppers into strips. Serve the veggie sticks with a small bowl of hummus as a dipping. ## Benefits Of Nutritious Snacks Nutritious snacks offer several benefits for young children. Here are some of the key benefits: Snacks that include healthy carbohydrates, proteins, and fats can help to maintain energy levels between meals. Snacks that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins will support the development of bones, muscles, and tissues. Snacks that are rich in calcium are essential for bone health. By mid-January you may be rocking your goals and feeling great, or giving in to habits or behaviors you set out to change. As a parent my goals stay pretty consistent from one year to the next. I want my children to be happy. Specific goals may vary based on the year, the larger goal remains the same. So, how does one raise happy children? According to Christine Carter, Ph.D, executive director of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, and author of Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents. The first step is to get yourself happy. It turns out that how happy you are directly affects how happy and successful your kids are. The problem is that most parents spend the majority of their time catering to the needs of others, and they forget or just neglect their own needs. Here is an abbreviated list from the New York Times on scientifically proven ways to be incredibly happy. 1\. Eat more chocolate 2\. Ignore tip #1, it was a joke. But you do need to **smile and laugh more**. 3\. **Exercise.** According to the American Heart Association we should strive for 60minutes a day. However, research shows that just **7minutes a day** can improve our overall happiness. 4\. **Sleep longer**. Adults should strive for **8hrs per night**, your body needs time recover from each day, as well as digest food and information. Sleep helps keep away the negative thoughts and feelings. 5\. Spend more time with **friends** and family. 6\. Spend time **outside**. It only takes 20min a day to feel the positive results. 7\. Mindful breathing and meditation 8\. **Practice Gratitude**. Make a daily list of 3 or more things that brought you joy, happiness or made you feel grateful. Do not focus on the negative. Here are two more steps you can take to be a happier parent according to KJ Dell’Antonia, author of *How to Be a Happier Parent: Raising a Family, Having a Life, and Loving (Almost) Every Minute.* 1. Teach your kids to do things for themselves. The way you parent and take care of your Child’s needs should evolve and change as your child grows. 2. Kids don’t always come first. All of your weeknights and weekends should not revolve around your child’s sports schedule or social calendar. You should have a few things in your life that you prioritize. See the above list for examples. Bring on the New Year, and bring on the small changes to make 2020 a happy one, for you and your children. ![author avatar](https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/69704bcc416f75e29e31bbdd1f7081e0d414d83d70b8ae8b2b6194755b449dce?s=300&d=mm&r=g) Cwl Admin [See Full Bio](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) [ ](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/author/cwl-admin/) **Categories:** Blog --- ## Pages ### [Home](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/) **Published:** April 20, 2026 **Author:** Orbitdevteam **Content:** # A safe, engaging community to learn and grow ![](https://creativeworldoflearning.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/line.png "line - Creative World of Learning - Creative World of Learning") ## Inspiring creative minds since 1975 Creative World of Learning focuses on the well-rounded development of your child. By enrolling your child or using our services, you agree to these Terms. CWL is a Gold-Rated childcare and early education provider operating under the Ohio Step Up to Quality program, serving the Dayton region and Miami Valley area. We are licensed by the State of Ohio in accordance with Ohio Revised Code Chapter 5104 and Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 5101:2-12. ## 1. Enrollment and Admission Enrollment is subject to availability, completion of all required forms, and payment of applicable fees. CWL reserves the right to deny or terminate enrollment if, in our sole and reasonable judgment, we are unable to meet a child’s needs or if a family fails to comply with these Terms, program policies, or Ohio law. Enrollment forms, including health and medical records, emergency contacts, and custody documentation, must be complete and current at all times. Families are responsible for promptly updating CWL whenever any enrollment information changes. ## 2. Ohio Licensing and Program Standards CWL operates in full compliance with all requirements of the Ohio Department of Children and Youth (formerly ODJFS) governing licensed childcare centers, including: - Staff-to-child ratios and group size requirements per Ohio Administrative Code § 5101:2-12-16 - Background check requirements for all staff under Ohio Revised Code § 5104.013 - Health and sanitation standards as prescribed by Ohio law - Mandatory reporting obligations for suspected child abuse or neglect under Ohio Revised Code § 2151.421 - Fire safety, emergency preparedness, and building inspection requirements Our Gold Rating under Ohio’s Step Up to Quality program reflects our commitment to educational quality standards that exceed minimum licensing requirements. ## 3. Curriculum and Educational Programming CWL uses the Creative Curriculum framework and Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment system to support each child’s academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Programming is designed to: - Develop foundational academic skills through research-based, hands-on experiences - Foster social collaboration and peer learning - Build emotional intelligence through Conscious Discipline practices - Support physical development through indoor and outdoor active learning CWL reserves the right to modify curriculum, classroom assignments, activities, and program offerings at any time to maintain program quality and regulatory compliance. ## 4. Fees, Tuition, and Payment Tuition rates, registration fees, and other applicable charges will be communicated to families in writing at the time of enrollment and updated as needed with advance notice. The following terms apply: - Tuition is due on the schedule specified in your enrollment agreement. CWL reserves the right to assess late fees for payments not received by the due date. - Enrollment fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated in writing. - Families receiving state childcare subsidies (including Ohio’s Child Care Assistance Program) are responsible for any co-pays and for maintaining eligibility. Loss of subsidy does not relieve the family of tuition obligations. - Returned checks or failed electronic payments may be subject to a returned-payment fee. - CWL reserves the right to suspend or terminate enrollment for accounts with outstanding unpaid balances. ## 5. Attendance, Drop-Off, and Pick-Up For the safety of all children, the following attendance and pick-up policies apply: - Only individuals listed as authorized on the child’s enrollment record may pick up a child. A valid, government-issued photo ID must be presented upon request. - CWL staff will comply with custody orders and court documentation on file. It is the family’s responsibility to provide updated legal documentation. CWL is not liable for compliance failures resulting from the family’s failure to provide current documentation. - Children not picked up by closing time may be subject to late pickup fees. If a child cannot be reached by authorized contacts within a reasonable time, CWL may be required to contact law enforcement or child protective services in accordance with Ohio law. - Absences should be reported to the program in advance when possible. ## 6. Health, Illness, and Medical Policies To protect the health of all children and staff, CWL enforces the following health policies in accordance with Ohio childcare regulations: - Children must be current on all immunizations required by Ohio law (Ohio Revised Code § 3313.671) or have a valid exemption on file. - Children exhibiting symptoms of communicable illness (including fever, vomiting, uncontrolled diarrhea, or rash of unknown origin) will be isolated and the parent or guardian will be notified for prompt pickup. - Children must be symptom-free for the period required by Ohio law before returning to the program. - Prescription medications may only be administered by staff with written authorization from the parent or guardian. All medications must be in original labeled containers. - In a medical emergency, CWL staff will call 911 and contact the parent or guardian immediately. CWL staff are not responsible for decisions made by emergency medical personnel. ## 7. Behavioral Expectations and Discipline CWL uses Conscious Discipline as its behavioral guidance framework. Our approach emphasizes positive reinforcement, emotional coaching, and community-building. CWL’s discipline practices are consistent with Ohio Administrative Code requirements prohibiting: - Physical punishment of any kind - Withholding food, rest, or bathroom access as discipline - Emotional abuse, humiliation, or threats CWL reserves the right to develop individualized behavior support plans in collaboration with families when needed. Persistent or serious behavioral concerns that pose a risk to the safety of other children or staff may result in program suspension or termination of enrollment, following notice and consultation with the family. ## 8. Mandatory Reporting All CWL staff are mandatory reporters under Ohio Revised Code § 2151.421. CWL staff are legally required to report suspected child abuse or neglect to Ohio’s Public Children Services Agency (PCSA) or local law enforcement. CWL will not be liable for reports made in good faith pursuant to this obligation. ## 9. Limitation of Liability CWL maintains all required insurance coverage and operates in compliance with Ohio safety and licensing standards. To the fullest extent permitted by Ohio law: - CWL shall not be liable for illness, injury, or loss arising from circumstances outside of CWL’s reasonable control, including communicable diseases, acts of third parties, or emergencies. - CWL’s liability for any claim shall not exceed the total tuition paid by the family in the thirty (30) days preceding the event giving rise to the claim. - Nothing in these Terms limits CWL’s liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or as otherwise prohibited by Ohio law. Ohio law governs liability for personal injury claims involving minors. Families are encouraged to maintain their own health and accident insurance coverage. ## 10. Media, Photography, and Intellectual Property Separate written consent is required before CWL may use photographs or recordings of your child in any external-facing materials. CWL retains all rights to its name, logo, curriculum materials, and program content. Families may not reproduce, distribute, or use CWL’s materials for commercial purposes without prior written consent. ## 11. Termination of Enrollment Either party may terminate enrollment with written notice as specified in the enrollment agreement. CWL reserves the right to terminate enrollment immediately for: - Non-payment of tuition or fees - Failure to comply with CWL policies or these Terms - Conduct by a child, parent, or guardian that poses a risk to the safety or well-being of the CWL community - Inability of CWL to meet a child’s care needs within available resources Termination of enrollment does not relieve the family of any outstanding financial obligations. ## 12. Amendments CWL reserves the right to amend these Terms and any program policies at any time. Material changes will be communicated to enrolled families with reasonable advance notice. Continued enrollment following notice of amendment constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. ## 13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your child’s enrollment shall first be subject to good-faith informal resolution between the parties. If informal resolution is unsuccessful, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the State of Ohio located in Montgomery County. ## 14. Severability If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable under Ohio law, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. ## 15. Entire Agreement These Terms, together with the enrollment agreement and any written program policies provided to families, constitute the entire agreement between CWL and the enrolling family with respect to the subject matter herein, and supersede all prior discussions, representations, or agreements. ## 16.
